Good Day All...I hope this post finds you in good health & spirits!

I am sidubbz and I just became a member this morning. I stumbled upon scratch after app inventor went down. I am interested in programming and am very new at it. I was hoping to learn how to create apps for Android (.apk). This was my purpose for coming here and any assistance you can give will be appreciated. I posted my first project which is very simple and basic but would like to know how to turn it into a Android apk. Any ideas?

They are both right, you cannot. But I hope you stay anyways!

First of all, I would like to say walcome to scratch.

Scratch is a wonderful program and has a wonderful community to go along with it. While we sometimes have those bad seeds, most people here are kind and will (try to at the best of their ability) to help you with any problems you may have, with the program itself or otherwise. I hope you enjoy scratch, and enjoy what the community was to offer.

Need sprites/sounds/anything else for a game? Try the requests forum.
Need help with a scratch script or do not understand something? Try All about scratch
Looking for a new project to check out? Try Show and Tell

As you can see, if you need or want something, or you need an explanation on something, just ask on the forums, we'll be glad to help.

Because you are new, I suggest you read the Community Guidelines to find out the rules we have here, and read the Getting started guide to get a nice jumpstart on your way to your first project. And if you are going to spend more time on the forums, I suggest you check out the BBCode Guide.

Thank you, and scratch on! (one of our two mottos, the other being 'Imagine, Program, Share')

Aside from how it is impossible to make an app with scratch,  welcome. I hope you have a bad good time.

Hi, welcome to Scratch!  smile

Regardless of what everyone said previously, there is some truth to what they say and there isn't.

The purpose behind Scratch isn't app building, but App Inventor is based on the way Scratch works. To my understanding, App Inventor should still be up (the the beta version of the App Inventor by GoogleLabs seems to be still up and running). The downside is that whatever you coded in Scratch you will have to recode it in the App Inventor, but since App Inventor is simple, perhaps rewriting the program won't be all that bad. ^^

I'm not familiar with the syntax of the App Inventor for Android, but maybe someone else here might be familiar with it should you need help in remaking the program in App Inventor. If you need help, you might have better luck asking for help in All About Scratch, perhaps someone there might be able to "translate" the programming code between Scratch and the App Inventor.  smile

Mysterious... Anyway, I think you can make apps on Scratch. Maybe, if you know another programming language, you could somehow port your ideas on scratch.

Uh, you cannot add apps, but you can still have fun programming, then sharing your games, shows, etc.
