I'm not sure what the default one is, but you can change it by going to 'Profile', and then 'Essentials', and you can set it to your time zone.

I don't think this works, it doesn't for me any way does it work for you? 
but the deafault time on the forums is sometimes called scratch time

It's called Scratch Time, but it's most likely Eastern Standard Time, since that's the time zone Massachusetts and thus MIT is in.
