Question For Scratch Team

Its about the license. I want to make a scratch mod, and all I am changing is flipping around the scripts pane and the stage to make it look more like the experimental viewer and scratch 2.0. The question is, can i keep the 'Share' feature and still call it Scratch if i just change the interface?

Re: Question For Scratch Team

No. It's clear in the terms:

2. The word "Scratch" shall not be used to refer to Derivative Works except in the phrase "Based on Scratch from the MIT Media Lab" provided that such phrase is not used to promote the Derivative Work or to imply that MIT endorses you or the Derivative Work.

  4. Derivative Works shall not implement or enable any feature that would allow uploading Scratch projects to any MIT Scratch website (currently http://scratch.mit.edu).

Even if you only change the interface, it's still a mod, so you have to follow the rules.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong: but if it's for personal use only, and you're not distributing it on the internet or giving it to anyone else; I think that should be okay.

Yeah, you're right. It shouldn't matter if you keep it to yourself.

Yawn.

Re: Question For Scratch Team

5. The source code for any Derivative Work based on this software shall be made readily available to the public, ideally on a public web site, free of charge.

If you don't want to distribute it, I think there won't be any problem, since no one will know what you did. But if that's your idea, then why are you asking Scratch Team such a question?

About the shareing part. Since it has no effect on function the files I make with it will be viewable by everyone online, but technically it is a mod. So I wanted some ST answers

Re: Question For Scratch Team

E-mail the scratch team, they told me once for a mod im still making that as long as no one would think mit endorses you. But my case was one of the letters stood for scratch.
I think you might as well just name it backwards (or sdrawkcab  tongue ) or get a different name.

As for sharing, e-mail the scratch team, I have a mod I'm making which it only takes some not so useful blocks away (of course I'm working on it still XD) and I would like to know if i could make it upload.

If you are reading this, please read to the end, because if you don't you won't know what's at the end. Don't just skip to the end though otherwise you won't be able to read the middle, which is most important. Now you must be wondering why you just read all that, the reason is you may have not noticed something, read it again and see if you notice it this time  smile

Re: Question For Scratch Team

It's Pecola  tongue

Anyway, Pecola is of course right. As long as Scratch obviously didn't make your mod, you can name it any way you like.
