Remember Dynamite Mod? (look in my sig) I'm just about done with the 1.0 version, it'll be called Mo' Throwables Mod (or a better name if you can think of one), anyway, it will include:
-throwable dynamite (bounces and explodes)
-dynamite bundles (bigger boom)
-desert dynamite (turns stuff into desert biome)
-ice dynamite (turns stuff into snowy biome)
-nether bombs (firey, netherracky, magma-y death)
-lightning attractors (self-explanitory)
-molotov cocktails (unleashes fire when it hits something)
-craftable slimeballs (heck yeah)
-sticky dynamite (sticky. dynamite.)
-glowstick (provides light where thrown, can be picked back up)
-sticky glowstick (it's sticky)
-spear (like an arrow, more damage, less range, no reload, can be picked back up)

Also, I would just like to take this chance to brag and say, the lightning attractors were my idea.

Idea:
Your End
When you throw it at a spot, it spawns Endermen in the surrounding area that are attracted to the point. However, if it hits a mob or player, the Endermem attractor sticks to them. Unlike regular Endermen, they are invincible to fluids, rain, and sunlight, and have a much more aggressive AI when they're following an entity.
Occasionally, the attractor will spawn unique prefix mobs, like Endercreepers, Enderspiders, Enderzombies, and so on.

A bit too complicated/not too useful, sorry.

I want to learn java, just so I can start modding Minecraft. I have gotten the minecraft coders pack, and did a few changes such as making pigs drop diamonds (if they aren't killed by fire). If I want to make the next TooManyItems, though, I need to know more.

The server list isn't being updated. My server is no longer a whitelist server. Will someone else try updating it?

Thinking of starting a creative server, which plug-in will allow me to create plots for people which can't be touched by anyone else? I also want it more client based, the owner of the plot can select who can alter it etc.

WorldGuard. It works, it can protect regions from griefing, and regions can have flags like enderman-grief = deny, tnt = deny, etc.
Although I haven't tested it, you might be able to let other users create and/or edit regions themselves. http://wiki.sk89q.com/wiki/WorldGuard/Permissions
It requires WorldEdit.
I would say residence, but it crashed when I used it.

Here's a way to run multiple Minecraft installations (on Windows):
http://www.scratch.mit.edu/ext/youtube/?v=5Li0HaTtX6s
Basically, it temporarily sets the APPDATA variable for one instance of Minecraft, directing it to another folder. The video is for Windows, but I suspect you could do something similar for Mac OS X and Linux.
