What I don't get about Pokémon is why we (avatars) seem to live in a super high-tech world, and yet our fastest method of transportation (besides flying on Pokémon) is a bike.

No, on the anime they have trains and planes and stuff.

Also, in the games they have trains.
In Unova, they have cars.
Well, the whole point is that since they have pokemon, they don't need to invent cars and stuff.

Here's something cool to do in Yellow:
Do Method #3 of the Mew Glitch with a Pokémon with a Special of 246. You will fight the strongest and cheapest trainer to ever exist, with a ridiculously balanced team that has crazy stats. Meet Agatha Ultima.
She has the following Pokémon:
Lv. 205 Dodrio
Lv. 205 Seel
Lv. 205 Pikachu
Lv. 205 Seadra
Lv. 205 Growlithe
Lv. 205 ゥ ( Z4
Ridiculous team, no?
The reward for beating her, however, is great: 9999
Recommended team:
Zapdos
Nidoking
Magneton
X ゥ- xゥ,
Lapras/Pikachu hybrid
Mew
Anyone up to the challenge? :p

Hybird glitch
You use Charizard 'M/Q to fuse your Pokémanz
I'll explain:
First, you must have a Q or Charizard 'M, at least one Pokémon above it and two Pokémon below it, all in the party. The Pokémon below the Q or Charizard 'M will be the 'recipient' to the Pokémon below it; that Pokémon will then be the recipient to the Pokémon below it, etc. The Q or Charizard 'M will appear in the top slot where the deposited Pokémon was, but also stay in its original spot and be the recipient to the Pokémon directly below it. Each Pokémon is now an 'unstable hybrid' of it and the Pokémon that was below it. An unstable hybrid displays the sprite and type of the 'recipient' Pokémon, and evolves in the same way as it; it has the level, stats (IVs, stat experience, base stats, and overall stats), color palette, effective typing, nickname, and moves of the 'donor' Pokémon.
To stabilize an unstable hybrid Pokémon, a Pokémon can be evolved (in the way the recipient would), traded to Pokémon Stadium 2, or deposited and withdrawn from Pokémon Day Care. A stabilized hybrid will be the species and level of the recipient Pokémon (or its evolved form if it was evolved), but have the stats, nickname, and moves of the donor.
And knowing is half the battle.

Isn't that kinda animal abuse? Team Plasma was right.

There are animals in Pokémon, however:

Woah! What are these strange, non-Pokemon creatures!?!

It's a impressive series, one that managed to escape my childhood.
That G.I. Joe image was gold.

The games were cool, and the settings were brilliant, the tower was creepy. The anime got worse and worse, I loved the first few seasons, but now I think they just roll some clay in random items and call it a pokémon.

I was sort of weirded out by lavender town, and the old chateau (if thats how you spell it...) but i loved it alot. I've never liked the tv shows, but i love the games.
