Re: Super Smash Scratch

oh... i forgot about that. well, ill will ignore that and make it big anyway, and compress the sounds and images. I am purposely making the animation slightly choppy, in that way there are less costumes per char. Also, do you know a way to post Scratch projects on sites other than scratch so i could?

Well, you would have to set up your own website and host it. But if you do that odds are that no one will want to view it.

Also, if you want to make your game high quality put in a sufficient amount of costumes.

that's crazy, there should be a limit! only, it must be high enough for your game, I don't now if it can be done for free though

Re: Super Smash Scratch

i want to make a really massive game, and the site's size limit holds me back. Try the game, and then look at my goal. Its WAY bigger than the limit. Oh, and Archmage's and my projects are too different ones were just chattin about SSB and code for fun LOL

Re: Super Smash Scratch

10 megs should be big enough. Super smash flash is only 10 megs.
I just took a look at your project and there are many other problems that will prevent you from making this game.

Here is a list of problems I can see by looking at it.

1. The movement is terrible and the movement scripts are scattered.
2. The scripts for the animations are poorly done
3. Your song is 5 megabytes, the largest song (even for flash games) should be about 2-3 megabytes
4. Your scripts are not maintainable and contain a lot of redundancy

To be honest the way you are coding doesn't show that you can make this work well in any language. Check out my SSB projects, even the early ones are well done. Download them, look at the scripts and compare them to yours. My scripts are near perfect, perhaps you could learn something from them.

Re: Super Smash Scratch

im not aiming for perfection - most people do not care about that. And for the scripts, i update them evevry day to be better and run smoother and faster. The entire system is actually messed, its nowhere near what ill really be using when the game is done. I appreciate the constructive critisicm, but you do not fully understand te circumstances in which i will be making the game and its plan.

Re: Super Smash Scratch

YutPut, I am not aiming for perfection either. But to even make a respectable project you need to make it organized so that you can build upon it. When ever you code something large all your scripts should be made carefully.

Your entire script needs to be redone entirely so there is no purpose to your current project.

Re: Super Smash Scratch

okay, so you guys only need 10 MB? freewebs offers around 45 MB for free and they have a really easy to use GUI. Takes a little getting used to, but after that, your good to go.

Re: Super Smash Scratch

Ok, I got a lot of things to say. First, Ive been working on SSBS all day long and my progress today inlcludes:
Shadow added
even more glitches gone
better platforming system
map selection
less lag
CPU upgrades
Random choice
platform dropping
CPU recovery
CPU choice
I have fixed every single problem with the game so far, even though with more additions comes more bugs. I am currently dealing with the ability to chose which CPU you fight, which is not really a problem because it is easy to do. I will take any suggestions, and remember that all things in the game you may consider bad will be eliminated in the final product.
Also, archmage if you are being so hard on me because i am trying to outdo your game, please do not. I am not telling people that your game stinks, despite the glitches i have found, so i expect you to not rudely critisize any of my content. I will, however, take any needed constructive criticism, but only suggestions and nothing considerably rude.

Re: Super Smash Scratch

It is great, ive been working very hard. In fact, the gme is so different from today that you may not entirely recognize it. I very much appreciate your evident enthusiasm, and atm there are the following characters:
Shadow
Link
Sonic
Kirby
Solid Snake
Random
The newest version of the game on the site is not what i currently have, and everyone's opinion of the game will be different, if slightly(i hope not), in a positive and tremendous way. IT will be posted once the AI is done will all 5 characters. IF anything, V 0.2.7 will look like Super Smash Flash 2.

Re: Super Smash Scratch

Actually the only reason I am being critical is because your description sounds amazing and you don't seem capable of making it. Show me some good code and I'll stop being critical.

Re: Super Smash Scratch

archmage, the scripts are messy and redundant because of the following fact, all the base programming was made when i first started scratch and did not even know anything about it. It would have taken hours to rewrite the whole game with broadcasting instead of vars. i have made it neater, and please realizez that this was my first scratch game i ever made, i just forgot about it and now i am remaking it and making it WAY better
