A lucid dream is a dream in which one is aware that one is dreaming. The term was coined by the Dutch psychiatrist and writer Frederik (Willem) van Eeden (1860–1932). In a lucid dream, the dreamer can actively participate in and manipulate imaginary experiences in the dream environment. Lucid dreams can seem real and vivid.
A lucid dream can begin in one of two ways. A dream-initiated lucid dream (DILD) starts as a normal dream, and the dreamer eventually concludes it is a dream, while a wake-initiated lucid dream (WILD) occurs when the dreamer goes from a normal waking state directly into a dream state, with no apparent lapse in consciousness.
Lucid dreaming has been researched scientifically, and its existence is well established.
Lucid Dreaming is sorta like Matrix if you were Neo and you weren't tasked with saving the world.

I tried this a million times. I actually got it to work once, and it was pretty awesome. But, I can't do it easily.

Yeah, same with me. I usually just have my dream not being able to control it, but still dreaming.

Can anyone give me any tips on how to do it?

One time I sort of had a lucid dream. I had a wand and did random magic like making glass break.
It was awesome.

Tonight I am going to try and lucid dream. I hope it works and I become an undersea creature.
Its not easy. If you do manage to mentally realize that you're sleeping, you'll most likely wake up right away.

I woke up the first time I realized I was having one, in first grade. Then I had another one in first grade where I didn't wake up immediately and one or two in fourth/fifth-ish grade where I also did not wake up for awhile. I woke up in the middle of the night for the both of the ones in first grade; I think that helps you remember

I get this type of dream about once a month, but I can't try to do so.

I sometimes know that I'm dreaming, but I still can't control it It would be awesome if I could though!

I once had a dream where I was being chased by some people, but I realised it was a dream. I remember my dream-self tried to wake up, with my pursuers very kindly waiting patiently while I tried. But I don't remember being able to control it. Or maybe I just didn't catch on to the fact that I could control it when I realised it was a dream. Hopefully I'll remember next time, and then I can be like Neo!

I almost always realize that I'm dreaming at some point in my dream, but realizing its a dream, and controlling it are different things.

First of all, don't think to yourself that you are going to have a lucid dream. Think about what you want to do in your dream.
And how I do it is that I lay down and don't move at all, but I think about getting up and walking somewhere. Eventually I'll fall asleep and I'd be at that place in my dream.
And as soon as you wake up, focus on the first object you see and recall what happened in your dream. This will make it more likely that you will dream lucidly.

I have lucid dreams a lot. I always have DILDs and usually towards the end of the dream (though still a decent length of time in lucid-ness). I did have this one cool one though. I figured out I was dreaming pretty early in, and when I figured it out, it was like the Matrix. Focus on water + raise hand upwards authoritively = epic pillar of water. I went around with the power of a god.

I did it once.
I went into 'YouTube', which was like a movie theatre setting mixed with a restaurant setting, and Hitler was eating cake and Fegelein stole it from him so for the next 5 minutes it was randomness - Hitler chasing Fegelein for his cake back, me screaming that the cake contained neurotoxins, Heavy laughing so hard he fell over and then bounced on his fat, Gordan Freeman standing there doing nothing, Louis screaming 'PEELZ', Wheatley screaming that he wasn't a moron, etc.
I then realized it was lucid, so I just floated around and started playing Guitar Hero, and soon everyone had an instrument to go with Rock Band so here's what it turned out to be:
ME - Vocals
HEAVY: Guitar (tiny baby size!)
HITLER: Drums
LOUIS: Keyboard
it was hilarious. The song was 'You're Goin' Down' by Sick Puppies.
Hitler went ape on the drums, Heavy couldn't do anything because his fingers were too big, and Louis kept screaming 'PEELZ' so we had to tape pills to the keyboard so he would play. LOL

One time, I lucid dreamed. As a first grader, or maybe in kindergarten. Unintentionally. I managed to keep it going throughout the entire night, and then woke up. It was... odd, to say the least, that I ended up re-experiencing this dream when I was 11. Only this time, I was the lab rat running around in a controlled world. Through some form of miracle, I managed to influence the dream myself to a degree, and make it safe. This, however, knocked the dream off balance and I ended up only in control of what went in, and just barely at that. I supplied endless resources; and only when I re-experienced it could I understand just what I had seen. Random memories went flying into my younger self. As well as a small spark for my anthro's design, which finally manifested itself after I joined scratch in 2010. I had, however, not known of sonic nor did I have a place to take advantage of his existence at the time of the original dream and simply tried matching the pallete for him to everything I could think of then. The thought died down, and we fast forward to mid-2011. It's fuzzy, but the idea re-emerges, seeming like my own because... well, it is. My mind is similar enough to when the dream happened to my older self. I find something that matches the shape perfectly; Sonic Advance sprites. I'm subconsciously fulfilling a little plan an older version of myself laid out unknowingly. As I search for a name, I find that my original blurred intentions' names are already taken. As I look for a new one, part of it makes me regain clarity on the thought. I re-edit the sprite in a matter of seconds and publish it only slightly later. In a month or so, my familiarity with Light re-triggers the dream and I experience being the invader into my own mind, and my own, earlier self's mental defenses manifesting forms created by me.
Long story short; Lucid dreams have some weird effects on people, sometimes being incredibly short-range telepathic powers.
Longer story short; TL;DR.

I love lucid dreaming. It happens a lot too. I am like "holy (censored), this is a dream. I can do ANYTHING!" Then I create a nuke button and press it and then the universe explodes and I teleport into minecraft and start spawning enderdragons and so forth...
My dreams, no matter what, always end in PONIES!!!1

Pretty much the only way I dream any more...it's kind of fun, because it's almost like Inception, except instead of building a city or map, I build story lines.

My Lucid Dreaming is interesting. I've mastered LDing, but I have one constraint. The things I do have to be related to what happened during the day. For instance, last night in my dream I became a god and I was able to fly. However, I could only fly by double jumping, like in Minecraft creative mode. This is because I had been playing Minecraft the previous day. I also was in a medieval town. It was exactly the same as Riverwood in Skyrim, as I had been playing there a while the previous day.
More things from the previous day appeared in my dream for me to manipulate, but most of the others I can think of are inappropriate, so I won't say them. I have noticed that if you are doing something you want to do, but you put it off to do something else, it stays in the back of your head meaning you will keep it in your LD.
Lucid Dreaming FTW. You give me flight, magic, settings to interact with, limitless power, and allow me for a short time to do whatever I want without a lasting consequence.
You rock Lucid Dreaming.
