I gotta say, just buy a Mac. They're nice computers. And then buy Windows 7 and install it through boot camp if you must have it too. And while your at it, install Linux too.

Reason: my family have 3 Windows computers, and they are all fine. We've had one of them as long as I can remember. That was a desktop computer.

Well, when I say all fine, my brothers do often mess them up. One leaves loads of unsaved stuff open and goes mad when you close them. At other times, one is annoyed and turns the computer off while they are in the middle of something. One of them also managed to download a virus called System Tool that messed up the computer.

Take it from someone who has used both a mac and a pc, even though my mac is now unsupported and I do not have money for a new one it is still has a batter GUI (mac OS 8.5). all that * about macs not being able to play games is a lie, it just happens to be that macs attract a market that is not as much gamers as it is people who do projects with media. if you want to play a game on a mac that is for windows you can dual boot it with bootcamp, and macs do have an app store that has many games on it. over all mac OS X is in my opinion an easy to use platform that runs on quality computers. what mac would I get? If your family has a lot of money (20 - 30 thousand bucks) a mac pro with daul apple cinama dispaly, 64gb of RAM, intel core i7 dual core processor, and 2tb hard disk. if not a macbook unibody with 4gb RAM, intel core 2 duo processor, 14" display, 120gb hard disk, and mac OS X snow leopared (lion has some bugs with games). 

If you get a mac, get wine.

You want to get Windows. The ONLY advantage of a Mac is that it has maybe 9-10 cooler applications and the GarageBand tool.

You can run Skyrim on high-ultra 
You have HomeGroups on Windows 7 and above, it's like a shared network drive but better
You can run almost all the types of sound files
Thousands of applications that will not work on Mac will work on Windows

I have a PC and a Mac. They both have ups and downs, though. So to all of you who sound like you just Google "Why Mac is better than PC" or "Why PC is better than Mac" and then spewed the results all over the post, let me just say that you are leaving out the CRUCIAL points. People equate PC to Windows, but Macs can RUN WINDOWS. So if you're doing it for EITHER iOS or Windows, the Mac is there for you.

It's the classic rock-paper-scissors phenomenon.

Mac have the GUI (and Windows, and apps) and are INCREDIBLY user-friendly and efficient, while PC offers Windows, games, and the like, along with a bit more power. BUT, Alienware is probably the best choice for power and gaming. It's all in what you want and how much you are willing to shell out for it.

Macs for those who love the computer experience, and want the functionality.

PC for those of you who need the office-based "shtuff" and OK game quality.

And Alienware for those who want to crank it up to 50. (Not to 50!)
