A minecraft server where you can't go above

I tried to make a server like this a while ago. Needless to say, I failed, but I hope you're met with success. It's an awesome idea, to say the least.

The server is quite popular. I started it today, and practtically for the last 4 hours it has been mostly full (8/10 slots)

This sounds interesting. Can I just whitelist here?
Ask me what I'm doing, wait an hour than roll a die, if it's 4-6, I'm playing Skyrim, if it's 1, I'm eating, if it's 2-3 I'm programming.

Whenever you die, you respawn on the surface. Thankfully, the first time I died, it was "raining" (I spawned in the desert, so there wasn't actually any rain), so I didn't burn, and there was a tunnel downward in a little cobble building. But now I have no idea where the regular spawn is. (Plus, the second time I died, it wasn't "raining" anymore, so I had to move fast.) I'm in "Lunar's Base" right now (judging by one sign that said that outside of the house thing where I ended up).
Yawn.
