Re: Welcome to your local block library! - Website development thread.

May I suggest using a different host for the mysql db at least temporarily, such as http://www.freemysql.net/ I'm not sure how reliable they are, but it could be an option.

It's an option... We're not holding any personal info at all so I can't see how it could hurt (Short of all the info being lost)

I'm not sure what I'm doing with Scratch blocks on the site. Am I leaving them out until .block files are done? (How is research and development on that front, btw?) Panther blocks are done, though the search function isn't I'll need to take a look at that at some point.

Unfortunately theSuccessor seems to have vanished which means our php block display system is half-finished (still can't display arguments).

If Scratch blocks are being added to the block library in their current text format I want to increase the detail for installation, e.g. full browser paths for all the code required by the block as some (especially control blocks) can be difficult to install properly with the amount of information currently given - I'd much rather we get the .block files working though  tongue

I'm going to try something new later today to make progress on them.  smile

Regarding the block files: if I manage to slap myself around enough to be interested, I might have a crack at it? What's the current status on that? (I guess I'll head over to that thread now.)

Are the block librarians still getting logged out when they try to access the BYOB sprite upload page?
Grr, it looks like I am too. I'll have to look deeper into how phpBB works...ugh.

Re: Welcome to your local block library! - Website development thread.

Wow, this project certainly fell apart. I know I need to be getting the BYOB uploader in shape, but I just don't have the time right now. I can almost never get on my laptop enough to do actual work during the week, but most of the issue is due to the fact that I have other projects that I'm working on. Don't worry, though; I'll keep this up in my mind and try to get some time to work on this soon. (Probably not this week, though, because I'll be needing to prepare my Minecraft server for the Minecraft release.)

Re: Welcome to your local block library! - Website development thread.

I guess it'd be kinda pointless to continue to support the BYOB block form on my site, since we're going to have a regular site...but then again, it would require a lot of link-editing, and I doubt if I can make inter-site symlinked folders, But we are having MySQL problems...maybe I could offer my database? (Just a thought, I may or may not be able to.)

Anyway, should I just upload the PHP source of the BYOB uploader onto the site11 site?

Re: Welcome to your local block library! - Website development thread.

Hey meowmeow! I think you certainly could upload it to the site11 site or post the code here, in case we decide to use it.

Unfortunately offering your database may not help - I am totally failing in trying to connect my own. I don't know if that the scratchr side or my side but connection just isn't working. We could try using yours if you think it might have a higher chance of working...

Re: Welcome to your local block library! - Website development thread.

Oh yeah, I remember now. So using my database prolly won't work.
Have you emailed the Scratch Team about the issue? We're kinda stuck unless we want to jump to another website or (*shudders*) use text files...  tongue

Re: Welcome to your local block library! - Website development thread.

I emailed Andres, yes. He couldn't make heads or tails of it. The problem is that I'm the only one who can see my site's end, and he and I are the only ones who can see the scratchr side of it which makes it very hard for other people to help...

If you need web development, just ask Coco and you'll get the best site you've ever thought of.

My Mom wrote:

Wow!

How I do it:

First, I ask what you want.
Then, I search Dogpile for sites that might have widgets that I could tweak to fit in your site. This takes 1 hour at worst. Next, I tweak the widgets. This takes roughly 2 minutes for each widget. Then, I take a web template and put in content and the widgets. This takes 4 minutes for each widget, and roughly 2 minutes for the content.
Finally, I upload it to http://cocolover76.sharkserve.com/ for previewing, and if the user likes it, I give the files to them via Mediafire in a compressed .ZIP.

Re: Welcome to your local block library! - Website development thread.

Thanks cocolover, but The site is already being built on the Scratchr server at http://www.blocks.scratchr.org and all of the current developers are web designers so we don't need any templates and such (we're basing it on the Scratch site layout). Currently we're trying to fix the unruly SQL connections.

Uh, ok. I'm good at Web development, which is Web templates, Web apps, Web services, Web uploading systems, PHP, MySQL, PostgreSQL, and Javascript.

Also, what I described in my post before this post, I actually used to develop the beta of my site, but now it uses Joomla.

Wait... I found a MySQL problem with the search.

Warning: mysql_connect() [function.mysql-connect]: Access denied for user 'accident'@'hagstrom.dreamhost.com' (using
password: YES) in /home/scratchrblocks/blocks.scratchr.org/connect.php on line 2

I tried to make it the same as how it appeared to me, but it might not be exact.

One more thing...
When you go directly to http://scratchr.org/, it has a Coming Soon page.

Re: Welcome to your local block library! - Website development thread.

The error is caused by the thing I'm currently trying to fix - connecting an external database to the site (The one supplied with scratchr.org is terrible). The dreamhost message in the above post is none of my concern because the site belongs to the Scratch team - I only have access to the blocks subdomain they gave me.
