Meeting of “German speaking Scratch Community” in Bochum

see: http://day.scratch.mit.edu/event/57 (this is a copy of that entry)

This meeting brings everybody interested in Scratch, weather teachers, parents, students an scientist from all over the country and even abroad together. Our meeting at "Scratch Day" 16.5.2009 will be our second one. First Meeting of our informal “German speaking Scratch Community” was a big success this February. We want to continue that fun and optimism with further exchange about our Scratch Projects, Experiences and the future role of Scratch in German speaking countries.

What exactly will happen at the Meeting depends on you:
Don't just consume that event, but be a part of it and influence the way it runs!

Timetable (matter to change, guests will be informed)

Fr. 15.5.2009
15:00-19:00 "Come Together"
19:00-24:00 Dinner

Sa. 16.5.2009
9:30 - 10:00 : Welcome
10:00 - open End: Different information slots e.G.
* Meet Scratch- and Squeak-Smalltalk-Sourcecode-Specialist that show you how to build individual changes of Scratch.
* Meet Teachers and Education-researches and hear their experiences with Scratch
* Have a look at Scratch-controlled-I/O-Devices, the MIT-Scratch-Board
and the German "Kratz-Brett" and what you can do with it...
* Find out about the German "Scratch Book Project" that will bring Scratch to any Bookshop
* Talk about the difference between "Scratch in School lessons" and "Scratch in afternoon activities"
* See different handhelds and gaming-machines Scratch runs on
* and much more...

All events are located in and near Bochum, whether in company buildings of engaged Scratchers, restaurants and mostly in our base, the MCS-School-Building, where also our regular afternoon courses for school-kids take part at MCS-Juniorakademie:
http://juniorakademie.mcs-bochum.de/mcs-juniorakademie/kursberichte/scratch-spiele-programmieren/index.html

You'll get a detailed timetable and plan if you send us an eMail.

Until now the event is planed to be free: There is no fee. But there will also be no expenses: You order and pay hotel, restaurant, food e.g. yourself. Until now it's an informal meeting of individuals with no responsible organization behind it. The owner of the locations are not responsible for that event!

This German-Scratch-Expert-Meeting Event will possibly be a part of a bigger Scratch-Conference with many kids and all kinds of new Scratchers. Because until now this is in planing-mode and not secure, we can’t give you details until now.

If you want to run your own event in Germany, Swiss, Austria or Luxembourg, please contact us: We would be happy connecting the events via Online-Meeting and Media-Information. The international Scratch Day is a wonderful opportunity to get more public awareness for the chances, Scratch gives to education. Let's work together to take advantage of these chances! Like Alan Kay says: "The best way to predict the future is to invent it."
