I just got an iPad from my school
I am in an advanced math class where everyone else has been issued an iPad, so I was able to convince them to give me one!
Anyway, I'm not allowed to jailbreak it, and I am a noob with apple products. What FREE apps should I get, and what steps must be taken for me to become an iOs developer?
Thank you, Steve Jobs!

I am a big apple fan and have 2 iPod Touches, an iPad and 1 iPod Nano so I know about good starter apps. The best starter app on the iPad is "Jelly Car 2" It's completely awesome and Apple uses it to advertise the iPads in the stores themselves.

Get Tiny Tower. It is an insanely addictive game, I have 36 floors and 60 residents.

If you want to become a developer, you can get XCode from apple for free (warning: It's an enormous file!!!!!). XCode includes the tools for programming plus an iphone and ipad simulator. However, if you want to send your apps to the app store, there's a $100 anual fee.
