I've heard MIT on TV a lot lately, and I was wondering what big things they've actually done, seeming I just know about scratch.

It's a got a pretty huge variety of stuff, including Scratch and such things in it's software area, several other countless and projects just as original as Scratch in other fields, and if I remember correctly, MIT (I might have gotten mixed up with something else, but I think it's MIT) has managed to link objects using quantum entanglement (which is pretty amazing).
