Well, as most of you know, I want an alienware laptop. The problem? $1,000 price point. Would it be too insane of me to buy a motherboard and all of the parts and put it all together for cheaper than the dell version? It's probably an insane idea, but can I get some feedback/expectation?

Just save up to buy the laptop.
Making one will take you about a month.

Don't bother trying to make a laptop. Try a desktop or upgrading a laptop.

lulz. I expected this much...
Anyway, @gravity: That's REALLY expensive still...
@what-the: I've already up (and down)graded my ancient computer from 2003 (doubled the RAM to run Ubuntu, but the HD broke so I now have half storage). I'm not interested in a desktop at all, it would just be a waste IMO when my family has a functional desktop already Of course, we have two functional laptops already, but my old one lives at school and our new one lives at home. It would be nice to have a capable one to take home/school.
What I'm really trying to say here is: Is it POSSIBLE or not? I'm willing to put in a little bit of extra time to have something that I can be more proud of.

what's that? Is alienwire a brand or some sort of new thing I have no clue about?
Like drinkable oats that Quaker just realeased in Mexico. Sounds dumb.
