I think what ever you plan to do, I have done better (tho I used WE). I made a bomb with approximately 10,000 blocks of TNT in the wars world of Total Concat. I wasn't going to light it, but someone thought it was only about 100 TNT, and lit it. It crashed the server.
EDIT: I don't mean to down-talk you or your idea, it just came out that way.
Plus, there's Walt's seriers of bombs.

I did it.
Took 15,000 bricks of TNT, 22,353 bricks of steel, and 125 redstone bricks.
And it detonated LIKE A BOSS
(The world was a gaping crater)
Back in my day.... there were no laws that censored the internet... now, there are.... nah.

We dont have that space unless WorldEdit is used. Maybe 20x15 would be good enough.
