then are violent books not art too?
or how about violent images? They are a form of art I detest
some violence can teach us morals, but violence is not a pleasant form of art.
I can see this argument working.
Very sturdy middle-ground opinion.

Name a game you'd consider art.
But don't mention any shooters. Because then I'd have to laugh at you.
And then I'd get in twubble. :cThere are a lot of games I consider art.
Mainly flash games made by relatively unknown developers.
I agree.
Shooters are not art and can never be art.Agreed. Sure, they can have artful GRAPHICS, but there's nothing artsy about lighting people up.
Well, there could be SOME good shooters that are innovative, fun, have a good story, etc. I just don't know what they are. If there's something artsy about a snow shovel (A REAL ART THING I SAW AT A REAL ART MUSEUM IN CANADA. JUST HANGING ON THE CEILING.), there COULD be something artsy about shooters.

Oh my gosh, I want that game so much. Have you ever played Flow? It's right here and it's GORGEOUS. Same with a lot of Orisinal games.

Some art forms are just stupid. Modern art being the main example. What's artful about broken glass?

you need to look into it... that's expression.
think about how it can emotionally connect into how the artist could have been feeling... most artwork like that is a sort of metaphor
broken glass could work really well as like lost love or social commentary

I think this person is missing the point on video games being art (He's probably one of those guys who think that graphic novels also aren't art.)
Art is something that is not immediatly clear to you. Frankly, anything can be art. Just look at the graphic novels in your library. There are books there who break the fourth wall. Sometimes they don't use words because they are not needed. It's really not all that hard to see whats art and whats not. Art sets your mind thinking, DC comics that tell a story and thats it are not art. (No offense to DC.) If you want a good example of art, just read this word: Portal. 'Nuff said.

I never got modern art anyways.

just because something breaks the fourth wall doesn't mean it's art

The sooner we stop completely worshiping Minecraft the sooner we realize that Notch and Jeb aren't amazing Gods anymore than Minecraft is some sort of mystical game.

I said amazing Gods.
Yes, they made a video game.
Yes, they made a good and popular video game.
No that game is not the only one we should be shoving down people's throats nor should we worship the creators.
And, lolwut, college project? The story of how it started is getting very distorted it seems.

idk
No one was shoving MC down your throat. It's a topic for people to post their OPINIONS on. You should have known Minecraft would come up eventually.
If any game is being shoved down on throats on a daily basis it's Mass Effect 3.
I mean CMON! There was even two posts about it on EQD! Not to mention every other stinking site on the internet. Why?!

seriously that was only two years ago.
and uh yeah sure some games from 2010 were bad bad bad! but some were alright
but to be honest I don't give a flying [removed] about when a game came out. I just play it.
anyway i dunno how i would define art- I just know what i feel is and isn't art.
To [removed] with it though- even Call of Duty could be considered art in some respects.
A glimpse of the dystopia and destruction that our society will succumb to if wars continue to rage the way they do.

Because it's a new big budget, popular, and quality game that came out today?

And that means it's NOT being shoved down our throats?
Anyway it seems what your saying is that the difference is one has a bigger budget, so that makes it okay to be overrated?

Depends on who you are, and what you think of games.
Offline
what makes whether a game is being shoved down out throats or not relevant to this discussion?
Offline
It definitely is. Kind of like how scratch is an art. If I was some random person and saw a scratch project, I'd probably honk it's a bad video game. But we are the ones who make it so we adore scratch more because of all the hard work we spent on it. Art is something that has tO take ime to really adore.
