It's not hidden, just on auto-hide.  It'll show up if you move your mouse the to bottom-left of the screen.

@meew0: It's not worse than Windows 7; first Windows 2000 came out, but that's incredibly old, so Microsoft made XP.  Than that was old, so they made Vista.  But Vista wasn't a great OS, so they made Windows 7.  Windows 7 was perfection.  So now Microsoft is actually advancing and making a new operating system since there's nothing left to perfect.

That seems pretty neat actually. I'm currently using Windows 7.

still using 2000 :') (for building itchy++). got windows 8 on my laptop!

Re: Windows 8

i here that markus persson refused to certify minecraft for windows 8 compatibility. he thinks he could convince minecraft fans to not upgrade. well, i'm a minecraft fan and i want to upgrade to windows 8. and guess what else? someone called windows 8 "a christmas gift to someone you hate." don't be a jerk, it's christmas. well, it will be soon. it's like people make a new thing, and then critics spit on it without even checking it out!  i think windows 8 is easy to navigate through. even if markus persson get's his way, i have minecraft scratch projects or terraria as a backup.

I'm pretty sure Windows 8 can run Windows 7-compatible applications, in "desktop" mode. You should be able to run Minecraft on Win8 perfectly. Certification simply assures compatibility with the tiled menu and other Win8 exclusive features, I believe.

All that means is you won't Minecraft as a Metro app.  You can still have it, Scratch, and Terraria in the destkop.

Microsoft, as a software producer rather than a marketer, had done a very bad job at explaining the difference between Windows 8 and Windows RT.  On Windows RT, you can't download programs off the Internet due to the ARM processor.  On Windows 8, as you will be on so long as you're not on a tablet, you barely even have to acknowledge that you are on a new operating system if you so wish.

me and my brother are probably getting the $40 upgrade. before buying it though, is windows 8 full of glitches like vista was or is it actually pretty reliable?

I don't think it has any real glitches that I've found.  Still new, of course.

Almost every OS that Microsoft has made that's an EVEN NUMBERED OS, is a major fail. Look, NT is odd, XP is odd, Win 7 is odd. See what I mean?

It's fine for gaming.

And contrary to popular belief, minecraft works fine.

He means version numbers.

From what I've heard, it eats up RAM like it grows on trees.

Re: Windows 8

So, I guess this is still relevant. I'm getting a new Windows 8 computer for my birthday in two weeks. I'm also getting a Windows Phone... I prefer Microsoft for computers and I guess since I have to get a phone, phones, but I prefer Nintendo for gaming.
