It honestly seems a bit drastic to me. It seems it was an isolated incident for the most part (I wasn't on at the time). Couldn't there be other ways of dealing with this? Would an image filter (like they have on Google images) be possible? I don't know. Normally I'm ok with the decisions the ST makes but this just seems too harsh.
Couldnt of said it better myself. In fact...

That I don't know.Oh, okay.
How long did it take last time it happened then?It took a couple of days last time. But back then, the solution to the problem was somewhat more simple - New Scratcher accounts have limitations until they're upgraded to Scratcher.
This seems to be a rather different case where older users post inappropriate images, so coming up with a solution to the trolling problem isn't as easy (if you look towards some of the solutions that people are suggesting, they're not exactly easy to implement, or they have their own cons as well).
Such incidences are not limited to just Scratch, other forums usually encounter these kind of problems, too, at some point or another. Some have gotten so far up to the point where links and images are disabled permanently (or, in one scary case, all posts were screened before they were ever made public), but that's kind of going a bit too far now, don't you think? Hopefully we'll come up with a solution, one that doesn't come to extreme points like that. For now just be patient until a viable solution is figured out.
Oh Oh Oh! I have an idea! One post with a picture per hour rule. It wouldn't apply to all about scratch though. It'd work similar to the 60 second wait rule.

Agreed. Maybe an 180-second rule for images. NOT an hour.

Okay, I swear I saw him say it somewhere in this topic, but I can't find it.
Oh yeah, and paddle didn't say he was shutting down misc., he was just brainstorming ideas of how to stop future troll attacks.

You mean this? He suggesting it as an option, but not necessarily a viable one.

Hm, I did a search on all the pages, and the only post of his I could find was this, which says nothing about deleting Misc.
Maybe he deleted it.
I don't see why he would though
