Wow, just wow.

So yes, as I've said before, I'm doing Algebra in Math. I feel as if it brakes all the rules that I've learned since 1st grade.  tongue

Anyways, here's a problem that I want to see if you can figure out. I was surprised that I got it right.  smile

-c + 4c + 7c + 19= 11c - (-4) + 2c

Find the value of c.

Man, I'm relieved that I got this answer right, ^,^

Got it in like a minute.  tongue

The algebra is stopping your math?  hmm  It's spelled BREAKS, not BRAKES.

Re: Wow, just wow.

I fairly simple considering the base problem is just
10c + 19= 13c + 4

Re: Wow, just wow.

c=5, did in my head.

It's not quite too hard. Don't keep subtracting and adding to both sides, but in the beginning, just simplify.

Re: Wow, just wow.

-c + 4c + 7c + 19= 11c - (-4) + 2c

Combine like terms on both sides

10c + 19 = 13c - (-4)

Subtracting a negative is adding a positive

10c + 19 = 13c + 4

Subtract 10c from each side

19 = 3c + 4

Subtract 4 from each side

15 = 3c

Divide each side by 3

5 = c

Turn it around

C=5

Isn't too hard.

Okay, okay. I know it isn't hard. I wasn't difficult for me either. It just looks hard cause of all the numbers and variables.  big_smile
