they're all rated MA15 in Australia, which means I can legally play them as I'm 15 ;D
yes who on earth doesn't.As I said. Slightly sadistic.
sorry to bust in on this reply chain, but I'm 11 and I play TF2. Before this, the most violent game I had was SSBB. But it still satisfies me. Know why? BECAUSE NOBODY ACTUALLY PLAYS FOR THE EXPRESS PURPOSE OF SEEING VIRTUAL VIOLENCE. I PLAY FOR GAMEPLAY. If a game that was OK by your standards was anything above the fun level of SMB: TLL, I would SMASH MY FACE IN.
Oh, and to get them to buy it for you. Just recite this simple fact: TF2 is only rated M because it was rated in 2006. If it were just made yesterday; It would be rated T. The rating system was much harder than necessary back then.

this is different. A soldier is not sent to go capture the enemy. A police officer is. People have to understand the circumstances. Police is self defense, soldier is sent to kill.

Wait, so you are saying if a police man and you are in a gun fight, you wouldn't fight for your life?

and if you're the officer and you shoot the criminal, is that murder?
Edit: let's stop talking about ethics and get back on topic.

I would'nt wait untill you are 18 or what they say you should be.Seriously! An M rated game? I wouldn't play it even if I WAS over the age limit... I don't know what makes people want to play those games with blood and everything...
Its de-sensitizing... like what happens to people after they go to war as a soldier and see all the horrible stuff... imagine that happening to a 14 year old! Its horrific!![]()

And enough about the gameplay, people! Whether it's for the violence or not, it doesn't matter. The bottom line is it's M-rated and whatever you do, don't play it. You're too young for the last darn time!
Lastly, if your parents disagree with the game as it is too mature, don't try to convince them or hide it from them. A game is a game and it doesn't matter. Go buy a game that your parents will agree on, like Super Mario or something. Or (here's a thought) get a book and read.

Yeah, but are we in a gun fight with police? No.

At jii7, so even if you were plenty old enough to play it by the guideline given you would choose to miss out on some of the best games being made because they're violent?
And I don't see why you guys try so hard to tell us what games we should play or even find yourself in a position to tell us what to play.

Precisely. Its a freaking game people! I don't see how me playing Dead Space 2 even though its rated 18 is going to change my life. Sure, its super scary, but in a few months I'll be over it.

Usually, for a truly bad effect to happen as a cause of a game, movie, TV show, etc. the person has to ALREADY be emotionally or mentally disturbed. An average person doesn't go from perfectly sane to a murderer JUST from consuming media.
Is the person really too young? For all we know, he could be really mature, and can handle stuff like that. He's a teenager from what I gathered, and by that age most people are old enough to know "reality" and "fantasy".
And don't point me to a bunch of studies about violent video games desensitizing kids. There are countless studies on both sides of the argument, so studies can't be used as a consensus for either side.

I presume you're talking about Assassin's Creed. If so, then that is the point of the game, right? I mean, you're an assassin. The point is to kill people. Why would you even want to play something like that? You enjoy playing games where you have the pleasure of pretending to murder people? Anyone who enjoys playing those types of games is in my opinion slightly sadistic.
People often use as an OUTLET for violent impulses.

Yes, you have a good point. However, people subconsciously pick up some of the material they see on TV or in media itself. It's possible to avoid this, but most of the time, kids are just playing their way through, not even considering the consequences. Now, I'm not telling him to stop playing violent video games altogether because, well, it's simply not my business. I'm just telling him, if his parents don't agree, don't do it. Simple as that.
Also, just because he's supposedly "mature" and he's old enough to tell "reality" apart from "fantasy", it doesn't mean he's too old to pick up some of the traits he sees in the game. It seems you guys are taking this situation too lightly. Violence in general isn't always bad. However, blood spewing all over the place and people dying everywhere isn't a kid or teen-friendly scenario. You have to consider this sometimes. Ask yourself, "Is this really fine?" or "Should I be doing this?" You have to at least feel some consideration when you play these games, right? If not, something might be wrong.
P.S. Trying to convince them is just pushing it and lowering your chances of possibly getting the game to begin with.
