I feel the title screen for a few of my games are rather bland right now. What are some components of a good title screen?

Make sure there's at least a little animation. That always helps. Another thing is it should make the game look better than it is, so graphics should be pretty good and so forth. Other than that, I don't know what to tell you.

I agree that good graphics are key. Make the title screen look interesting, make that the picture when you upload, and people will probably look at it if they think it looks cool.

Look on http://resources.scratchr.org/resources for some cool backrounds to put on your title.

Maybe a logo, or a scene from the gameplay at a cool angle (example).
Colorful buttons are good, if it feels too empty make the buttons bigger.

Try to make a subtle animation within the title screen and have some satisfying effects when you hover over/click the buttons. Try to include some abstract pictures, etc in the background or as part of the buttons. Don't forget to make the transitions smooth!

Add lots of detail - for example, if you're doing a beach, you could:
1. Put the sea, shore, and sand in.
2. Do as above, but maybe add a palm tree (animated maybe). And some starfish and shells and sandcastles on the shore. And maybe waves, and the sun, and hotels off in the distance, with some crabs maybe, and pebbles and rocks and trenches and people and litter and picnic blankets and... ... ...
I recommend 2, and take the time to add killer graphics
You don't have to stick to just the Scratch paint editor; you can also use GIMP or something before importing your drawing.

It isn't exactly what you're asking for, but it'll give you an idea:

And what it could have been:
Get it? Put in tons of nice art.
Well, just do what everyone else said

That about sums it up.

What also makes it look more professional is The Mouse-over Script.
