Sure, don't listen to Apple. According to them, downloading media from any other company than themselves is illegal.

I can't find anything on the internet that suggests that downloading music you already own in another format is legal, so I don't think it'd be true for books either. I'm not sure about in your country though.

Actually its legal to download a torrent of something that you already own, a movie or CD or whatever.

All I said is that I can't find any proof of that, and that much is true. If you'd be willing to provide some sort of conclusive evidence, I'll be more than willing to believe you.

There seems to be another debate about this.

My policy on piracy is as follows:
Say you pirate/torrent something. If you pirate it just to try it out, like it, and then buy it, then you're okay. Same if you pirate an extra copy of something you've already bought. If you /don't/ like said pirated item, then there's no harm done because you probably would have never bought it anyways. If you like it but don't pay for it, you're a crook.
Not sure how this fits legally, but whatever.

Yes, I've seen debates related to this about books, music, movies, etc. but I haven't seen any legal conclusion about it, and I'm not sure if there is one.
The general consensus from my research seems to be that it's morally okay and legally grey. I mean the RIAA don't even think people ripping CDs should be legal, so they sue over it and 90% of the time people just pay a fee instead of going to court because it'd be a ton more expensive even if they won.
So basically, I dunno.

I'm pretty sure it's not legal to do with music either, though it's generally regarded as something fine by moral standards, just like downloading a ROM of an old game you already bought.
Therefore, downloading an E-Book version of a book you own may or may not be legal in your country, but depending on what you think, may be morally fine.
