Bullying Advice

If you are bullied in school and you don't know what to do, this is the forum for you.

I have alot of experience with bullies, and was able to make a list of rules for dealing with bullying or anything related to it.

Rule #1: DO NOT COMMIT SUICIDE!
This is by far the most important rule of dealing with bulling. Don't do it! Never, ever, never! Bullies can make it seem like you are worthless, but many adults that got bullied, and didn't commit suicide, were very successful in life. It was the bullies that turned out worthless. So don't be discouraged because a bully said you have an IQ of 2 or that no one will want to marry you. That bully might just end up as a hobo or have ten kids at the age of 16. You're only a kid for 18 years. You can stick it out for that long, you have a future.

Rule #2: Keep cool
Never let the bully know that he/she is succeeding in hurting you. I know a kid who always got teased because he was overwieght and he couldn't talk or read well. Every time someone picked on him, he would go: "THATS MEAN!" or "YOU ARE HURTHING MY FEELINGS!" but they wouldn't stop bullying him. (Don't worry, he is fine now.) In 4th grade I used to freak out about everything people said to me, and I got teased more because they knew that they could make me mad. But in 6th grade, I didn't freak out about anything. In fact, my worst enemy (bully) got so mad that I was laughing at the "Jokes" she pulled on me (it was so funny watching her fail to insult me) that she started fighting other kids, physically. One time she injured her foot in a fight with a kid, and ruined her summer vacation because she had to be on crutches. And it's all because I kept my cool.  smile

Rule #3: Don't retaliate
As you have probably figured out, the bully will tend to ruin their own lives, so you don't need to help out. Retaliation can get you in a lot of trouble, often even more than the bully does. Physical retaliation will definitely get you in serious trouble. I got a lunch detention for "accidently" (not really) punching a kid in the face because he took a picture of me and put it on Twitter. Verbal retaliation is bad, too. It doesn't get you in as much trouble, but it still counts as bullying. Retaliation is worse than freaking out or crying, and it's the opposite of keeping cool. So do yourself a favor, DON'T RETALIATE!

Rule #4: Tell a TRUSTED adult
Many people complain that telling an adult never works. That is mainly because they tell the first adult they see. Common sense, people! You should never tell an adult that doesn't give a * about you, or worse, is best friends with the bully. You should always tell an adult who cares about you and, trust me, there is at least someone. In 4th grade I thought that none of the teachers liked me. If I had known that almost every teacher did I would have told someone, but when I found out it was too late. I have also found it easier to tell the Principal directly than to tell a teacher. Also, if you go to a counseling group, it is good to tell the guidance counselors. It is their job to help you with that kind of stuff.

I hope this can help. If you would liketo discuss any bullying incedents you have gone through, or you would like to suggest another rule for the list, please feel free.

Re: Bullying Advice

I don't think this belongs in Scratch, yet alone in the "Reading and Playing" forum. Sorry.

Yeah, but it's still not okay to make a topic when you know it doesn't belong there. Just keep that in mind in the future.  wink

Re: Bullying Advice

Ah, unfortunately the misc forum was taken out exactly because we don't have the moderating power to deal with topics like this.

I honestly think its great that you're doing stuff like this, the world needs more people like you giving support to bullied people.  smile

Unfortunately it's not to do with Scratch, making, creating, reading or playing so I'm going to have to close the thread.  sad
