Ok, soo...

I think there should be a featured user at the top of the Scratch homepage. It would update once every week. It would be like this: http://i.imgur.com/2Iirg.png
but it would be at the top of it. I just did this so that I wouldn't necropost a topic.

Re: Ok, soo...

Nice mockup, but for the top, it's really easy to do:
EX:

Anyways, I support
EDIT: Sorry for taking out the ScratchEd thing for anyone who uses it.
But instead of every day, maybe have the Scratch team choose someone every week or so

EDIT#2: Thanks for using my mockup!  I'll be making a better one soon.

EDIT#3: Better Mockup above

EDIT#4:I also think it should be like featured projects: You can't nominate yourself, but others can nominate you.

Re: Ok, soo...

You should probably name forum topics something more interesting than "Ok, soo..." so people actually know what it is  wink

I don't know if I support this, I think it would just become a "feeding frenzy". A lot of younger users aren't mature enough to deal with fame (I have seen this for myself on many occasions). Furthermore, many, many people will be wanting a spot. So how will we select which ones to feature? Maybe there be a topic where users give speeches or something.

But anyways, I think fame should be earned and not given. This is why I like our front page, and curation, because they earned their fame through hard work and good programming. I think handing out fame like this, to people who may or may not deserve or be able to handle it, is not a good idea.

So I don't support.

It would be earned. You'd have to have helpful topics, and comments around the community, and you'd have to have a Scratcher rank.

Oh, and funeleplant, I changed it to a week. Also, what about the Top Loved, or the Top Viewed?? Do those make users sad? How about deleting all of the Top ___ stuff?

the people on top viewed are there because either nobody ever bothers to look at anything else or they use advertisements on other projects. rarely is there a project thats actually really good or innovative

Thats actually a pretty big generalisation. Scratch isn't just about your tastes. If you don't like what's on the most-viewed, apply to be curator.

if it need more elaboration, give me a good example of an original, inspirational project in the top viewed section recently. and i dont always thoroughly pick through the top viewed section project by project so excuse me if im wrong

I don't think that a project can exactly be "revolutionary".

Here's the other side - a lot of my projects get front paged even though I dont want them to. Now, someone might say "if you dont want projects on the front page, dont share them", well sometimes it becomes necessary to distribute information, either about yourself or something about scratch, to many people. I use my test account for small projects, but people find those too. I want to keep sharing projects so others can learn from them, and use them. But its impossible to prevent them from reaching the front page unless you delete or just don't share them.

I don't think that a project can exactly be "revolutionary".

yes, it can
a simple easy to work with physics engine with ultra-realistic physics, a feature length smooth animation with a good plot and everything from scratch including the music, even an actual working mmorpg.
give me one of those and ill be satisfied
