Okay well lemme say for the record that Minecraft, although it is a good game, it does not exactly hold up as "greatest video game of all time". It's certainly a groundbreaking game but at times I feel that the game mechanics either become too simple or even too convoluted. I've actually completely lost track of what they're adding to the game, and my friend said "Dude there are fireworks in Minecraft" and I said "Wait what".

Anyways I very much agree with Soup right now, Civilization is truly one of the best in the strategy genre.

So let me run down each game that I find to be truly the greatest games:

Half-Life (I'm surprised that there's little mention of this)
Super Mario Bros. (the NES version)
Pong (I've actually made a Scratch version of this which I'm quite proud of, Al Alcorn has played it himself, but that's a long story)
Pac-Man
Civilization
SimCity (this game really is the best in the "simulation" genre, Roller Coaster Tycoon is also cool, but man, SimCity, can't wait for the new game to come out)

I agree with everything you said there but civilization and half life. The classic games will always be the best. I still like some new games though.

MY LIST:
Mario Kart 64 (dude you can't beat this one. It's just so classic.)
Super Mario Bros (After 28 years this game is still extremely fun.)
Donkey Kong Country Returns (THE best Wii game. I enjoyed every second of it.)
More coming later.

I'm still waiting for another entry with Ike as the main character.

I've never played Fire Emblem, actually, are they good games? I've heard a load about them.

They're amazing.

If you've got a 3DS, pick up the new Fire Emblem: Awakening. You probably won't be able to find it physically, download it. Got it yesterday, only on the second chapter and it's amazing.

If you don't have a 3DS, there's a lot of others. We own the Wii release but I've never played so I can't say much about it, still probably good. Then the GameCube one is incredible as well - my friend and I used to play for hours when he was over when we were younger.

The one thing you have to be weary of is that characters die forever in the game, so unless you want a small team, you'll be restarting the level before it saves to keep people a lot. And don't play on casual to keep them - casual is for losers.

I liked Awakening better, honestly.
Uprising was cool - but the way you play was somewhat irritating and the on-rails was a mild annoyance.

It's hard to claim Civilization isn't classic, and considering the relatively short time games have been around - Half-Life is probably safe to claim the same of.

Also the new SimCity will probably stink if you've heard anything about it. Limited city size, forced to specialize, have to be always-online and cooperate with other players.

And regarding Minecraft, not the greatest video game of all time, but certainly in the top 500 (which is admittedly broad), for what it did for the indie genre, and sandbox games, no?

I haven't played Half-Life (and only played one Civ) but I can still appreciate what they did for their respective genres.

Regardless, it seems even sillier to say "I agree except for the games I haven't played"

If you want something to do while Scratch is down, check out tbgs.tk! It's the new version of the (closed) Scratch TBGS, run by Scratchers! I'm going to spend most of my time there, anyway.

Yep, the story is the same. Think of it as the Super Mario All-Stars of OoT.

Not necessarily.
Just because a game is "classic" it does not mean it is the "best".
Also why not Half Life? It's a revolutionary game that changed the face of an entire genre.
Are you just judging it because it's a first person shooter.
