the reason people spam is not to up their post count, it's because they're trying to get traffic to whatever site/project/thread they're advertising.
Again, this has already been discussed in that thread. If you have any further points to make about it, then I'd suggest you discuss it there because that's not what this thread is about.

why was jvvg's removed? Only you could see your post count with that one!
His stores the value in a database as well though and he was working on doing something similar to what MathWizz and by extension I did.

could jvvg just make the userscript without developing the visiblity to everyone option, this could be really helpful, if you don't want to go to your profile to see how many posts you have all the time, you could just scroll up!

I'll remove all that in a second, and make the original one available.
I can't see any ST objection to that.

The original version of the script (i.e. the one that only shows your post count, and doesn't do anything with everyone else's) is available at:
http://www.mediafire.com/?zgtx6p2far6y3jk
@Scratch Team: is this ok?

Not anymore...look at the first post to see the old version, which only shows your post count and does not submit it to my database.

I was referring to the one you had made available previously :L

Yes, IK, I was just clarifying that the current version doesn't do that.

To find just your own post count, what's wrong with going to the Forum Options link at the top of the forums?
It can be too much of a pain, especially if you like pointing out which posts have big milestones for you.

Isn't that going to allow people to access their post counts programatically and, with a little effort, then put their post counts into their signatures?
That would tend to put more emphasis on quantity of posts over quality of posts - something that would not improve the forums.

Oh, cool... it looks just like a menu button...
And I'm upsetting my perfect hundred by posting this (I had 400)

1. People can only access their OWN post counts (and still must log in to do so), but it would be just as hard to put it into a sig as it was before.
2. People still put emphasis on quantity, as I think that the change actually ENCOURAGES spamming to increase post count (i.e. instead of 20 posts to get from 230 to 250, it's now 270 to get from 230 to 500).

The ST wants everyone to (see Paddle's post a little while back).
However, there is a newer version that just shows YOUR post count. You should get that one.

The Scratch Team doesn't want us to see our post count because it might provoke us to post many poor quality posts to reach mile stones like 1000 posts.
Well, anyway, one could call that whole endeavor to sort-of bring post counts back one of the biggest failures in the AT forum.

We didn't fail though... The ST doesn't what us to use it.

We didn't get the project done, so I'm calling it a failure.
On the bright side, I'm now better at AJAX.

I found my problem now... The development and canary builds of Chrome block extensions, apps and user scripts from everywhere except the Chrome Web Store. This means that future versions of Chrome will do that too
. There is a way around it... Download the extension to your computer, then drag and drop it into the chrome://extensions page.
