That book was great. The assignments that accompanied it were not.

Re: To Kill a Mockingbird

Good book, and did you know the book is a fictionalized autobiography of the author's life?

Re: To Kill a Mockingbird

My English teacher is reading it (for the '49th' time) and keeps reminding my class not to read it. I might read it just to annoy her. :L

Re: To Kill a Mockingbird

I had to read it for a report freshman year. It's really an impressive piece of literature, one of my favorite books actually.

Re: To Kill a Mockingbird

I've read it twice-- once for fun in eighth grade, and once for English freshman year. I enjoyed it.

However, I've heard people (including teachers) argue that To Kill a Mockingbird isn't actually good literature and is only a classic because it featured an important topic for the time period it was published and "said something that needed to be said." I haven't read it recently enough to have an opinion on this-- do any of you agree that To Kill a Mockingbird is flawed or poorly written? Harper Lee never did manage to publish another book.

Re: To Kill a Mockingbird

I was not expecting Boo actually show up at the end.  I really wasn't.

“Remember it’s a sin to kill a mockingbird.” That was the only time I ever heard Atticus say it was a sin to do something, and I asked Miss Maudie about it.
“Your father’s right,” she said. “Mockingbirds don’t do one thing but make music for us to enjoy . . . but sing their hearts out for us. That’s why it’s a sin to kill a mockingbird.”

Title drop.

Wow

This is one of the only books where I've seen the movie first, but I still love both of them.

I think Bob Ewell had his death coming at the end. Serves him right, doesn't it?

This is discussing the book, so I'm assuming everyone who's reading this thread has read the book.
