Maybe MIT could make something that is really advanced, like C# or C++ but it uses the Scratch Block interface. Like scratch is now, but with like, 1000 blocks to do ALL of the things that C++ can do, and export to exe and swf, stuff like that. That would be AWESOME.

Just learn a language that does what you need it to do.
This definitely wouldn't work because Flash and Squeak aren't low level. How can you make a low level programming language without making it in a low level programming language?

I don't mean exactly like C++, I mean something LIKE C++ that has 3D capabilities. And who says it needs to be in Squeak? Flash can do 3D, right?

If there is anything like this already, please post a link to it.

Re: Alice Official Topic

Scratch can do 3D. It just doesn't have any libraries for it and it's also really slow. Essentially you're asking for two things:
1. A 3D library for scratch.
2. A way to speed up scratch.

Not... enough... power...

3D games use up to 3GB memory, but scratch is limited... really limited.

Making a mod for Scratch that runs mainly on 3D would be really cool.

1. What?
2. Flash is still really slow.

Wrong.
Scratch was developed from nothing but Smalltalk libraries.

Back in my day.... there were no laws that censored the internet... now, there are.... nah.

Different topic. He's talking about squeak, not scratch.

I would like to get it, but it's like 350MB. That'll take about 6 hours to download.

it tok me only 15 minites to download  tongue

Yeah, Americans have internet for free and it reaches speeds of up to 50 megabytes per second, but usually it's about 2 megabyte per second. Here in SA we pay R200 - R2000 ($25 - $250) per month for internet that reaches speeds of up to 5 megabytes per second, but is usually 30 kilobytes per second, which is 0.03 megabytes per second. That's what I have, 20KBPS. Not that I'm complaining, I mean, internet is internet.

The only reason I'm complaining about it is that I can't download most things, like Alice, because they are too big.

Canada has to pay for a certain amount of downloading per month or something.

But we pay. And where did you hear 50 megabytes  yikes  I get 100KB downloading from Steam.  sad

I'm glad to think that the community will always be kind and helpful, the language will always be a fun and easy way to be introduced into programming, the motto will always be: Imagine, Program, Share - Nomolos

Hm, we pay for the fastest internet and we only get around 800KB/s max, and awful 3KB/s upload speeds  hmm

As for Alice, I've found that it's much more restrictive than Scratch, kinda like Stencyl, although the fact that it's 3D is kinda an interesting concept I guess.

Then I guess we have been lied to.  yikes

Who told you it was free for us???

Haha, we wish, but no, we have to fork out some cash monthly for Internet just like most everyone else.
