He walked along the wasteland, searching for old metal sheets from which he could roof his house with. There wasn't enough, however; most had already been picked up while he was gone.
His foot caught in a reel of wire, and as he stumbled, he prayed he hadn't disconnected the faulty wire in his wrist. He twisted it to check; it was still working normally.
Carefully pulling up rusting tin cans, flaking when he touched them, despite his caution, in his search for suitable material, he found a book. It appeared ancient, its cover frayed at the edges, a faded grey, although in patches it showed signs of once being a vibrant forest green. Wiping dirt away, he found he could read the bold words printed in gold lettering across the top. It was a book of ancient human anatomy. Humans had evolved since then, and become even more technologically advanced. Even then, he was one of the first of his kind.
He found himself beginning to tire, and sure enough, the usually loud buzzing in his lower chest had softened dramatically to a weak hum.
He needed to charge his battery again.
Only read on if you can't figure out what this story is about.
A/N: My point in this story is we have evolved so much, and will evolve more in the future. I wanted to leave this story something you have to think a bit about. I hope I have confused you a bit. ^^
Besides the fact we have evolved, we have become more and more dependent on technology. This post itself is typed using a smartphone with a functioning internet connection!
But in this I have proposed the idea of becoming technology ourselves; this boy is run on a battery situated where his heart should be. When I say "the first of his kind", I imply her was born like this.
I don't want to provide too much information; I want it to be almost like a code (hence the warning above). I hope you found it somewhat interesting!

This sounds really good. I hope you can continue this.

Haha, I read the whole post because I managed to just skim over the warning.
But it wasn't very hard to decode at all.
I wrote something I would say is extremely similar a while ago, though I won't give you a spill of it's meaning you could miss the warning of.
Year 24 of the Transactive Empire
The human-esque figures you see down there, as you look from above, are not that far from being like you and me. If not for a few distinguishing characteristics, we're practically the same! The most obvious change would have to be the absence of a face on the people you're looking at, masking any thoughts, should they have any. But also different are the knobby hands, useless, that look like a kid's drawing where they had no regard for the fingers.
But they are very different in other ways. That face they're lacking makes their personality disappear. The wisdom, curiosity, bravery, or whatever else you may find in someone's eyes is gone with them. No longer can they inflict their voice with that of sarcasm or fright. No longer can a smell be pleasant or unpleasant to a person. Despite all this, they do have a sense of their surroundings and . . .feelings.
---
Look at that one down there. He's walking in that store; "FURNITURE SHOP" its sign reads. "How does he know? They have no eyes!" You say. This will impress you, because he does! It's a tiny camera hidden there, under his faceless flesh. Though they have no eyes, they can see.
Now see as he talks to that man. See their faces light up? Not with joy or happiness, but with those words, scrolling past? Though they have no mouth, they can talk. It seems he would like a sofa.
Those words on the seller explain what he has. He offers them up. See what the man will choose. I'm sure you'll agree with whatever he takes; the selection is amazing!
The man's face is buzzing with words again. He's chosen the third one; it was personally my favorite as well, how about you? His face is buzzing up again. "How much does it cost?" is scrolling across if you look closely enough.
Now look at the shop-keepers face. "300TU". The currency. He wants three hundred transactive units. The buyers face is lighting up with words of agreement. After a split second, he's made his transaction. It's an amazingly efficient system and he doesn't have to carry anything on his way out!
---
That man just bought a virtual sofa. Unlike our's it will last him forever, and he will always be content with it. All the machinery inside him will make sure he has the feeling to love it and feel relaxed when on it. The machinery inside him will allow him to see with a camera. The machinery inside him will allow him to talk with the screen. The machinery inside him will allow him to pay money with no movement. No personality needed, maximal efficiency! Human evolution at it's finest!

There is an ancient forest, almost entirely destroyed by the previous generations of humans. Not that it matters, they no longer have need for air.
A single life form wanders amongst the trees.
He isn't lost, nor does he know where he's going. He misses no one, and is not missed. He has no family. He has no need for a family. He has no knowledge of social interactions, and no desire for them.
He has not eaten in his life, and he feels no hunger. He feels no thirst, though he has had nothing to drink.
Many predators stalk the forest, but they are no threat to him. They pass him by, and pay him no attention. They are not even aware of his presence.
This man has no flesh, nor any solid substance. He needs nothing. His life will never end, and he will continue to wander. He will never feel joy, but that is fine, he will not feel sorrow. He will never feel satisfaction, but he will never feel frustration. He will never experience any physical pleasure, such as warmth, but he doesn't mind, he will never feel pain.
The man will continue searching. For the rest of eternity he will search, but one can not find when they do not seek.
_____________________________________________________________________________
This man is composed of nothing but raw energy. You decide, is it worth it?

Sorry if it doesn't strike such a dramatic tone, but I try...
Just thought I'd share an extreme case of human technological evolution.

I enjoyed it I had this really long reply typed out, then the page refreshed. The effort of typing it out again...
Can I guess the meaning? I think I know ^-^

As an afterthought, your writing style vaguely reminds me of TDD's for some reason.

But with the absence of expression, there is the absence of progression. Where we were once able to improve and innovate through our creativity, we may have reached a standstill. With this level of technological evolution, can we go any farther?
