It does make it a lot easier, TBH. After a while, it just becomes natural, and as easy as drawing with a real pencil and paper.
The pressure sensitivity doesn't matter when it comes to Scratch, because Scratch doesn't support it yet, however, if you like drawing your own icons in Photoshop/Gimp, it helps a lot.
I personally didn't find that it took any time to get used to the tablet, and as soon as I had installed the drivers was drawing a Scratch project.
However, looking through a few of the above comments, it seems that is took some people a while to get used to the tablet. I TL;DRed, so some of the things I'm saying might have been already said.
Rainbow text. What will they think of next.
Hope that you like the color blu- I mean, that you found my post helpful.

I love mine. It doesn't really matter not being able to see it on the tablet. Its kinda like a *one with the pen* kind of thing But my tablet lags in scratch, so you might want to consider that.

I will say that tablets lag in Scratch and in GIMP it only has pressure sensitivity for density, not line size (as far as I know). I think Paint.NET doesn't use pressure sensitivity in the latest version.
You could also get artrage or SAI but they cost money Not that much, though

Scratch's Paint Editor is a horrible choice for an art program, I'd most likely use it with Paint.NET or Photoshop. Blender also lets you use the pressure sensitivity to control the hardness of the Sculpt tool, but I'm not into Blender anymore and I guess it'd also be a bit complicated if I can't see exactly where I'm drawing.

I prefer a tablet over a mouse when drawing. Although I don't draw, I one time tried to memorize some stuff and writing it down on a tablet was much easier then a mouse. I tried both. I finally figured it out.

If you have loads of money, get a Cintiq. If not, a normal tablet is fine, although it does take a lot of practise.
