No, actually. After about 100K write cycles, a SSD will break (search Wikipedia for Flash Memory, and see the section on Memory Wear).

And yet somehow, the processor does the job.

Well, AMD probably still has better integrated graphics than Intel.

Also, why not tell that to my HDD that just crashed. 40GB lost.

Never happened to me. I've had computer problems before, but none of my HDDs have ever broken. Some of my computers are 30 years old, too (my Macintosh SE).

Then use OpenSolaris on something else, and that OS is free.

You do realize OpenSolaris was discontinued entirely. Also, Solaris 11 is free. -_-

Oh, well, I used OpenSolaris back when it was still being developed.

I don't think that post has a rating either.

Re: Mac Vs PC

Wow, I'm surprised it has taken me this long to find this topic. I'm usually one of the first to post in Mac vs. PC topics.  tongue

On the hardware side, I prefer PCs to Macs, because they are the exact same hardware (Intel and AMD CPUs, Nvidia and AMD/ATI GPUs, etc.). The only difference is that Macs cost way more for no reason at all, and the cases are shiny enough to blind you.

On the software side, I would actually pick Linux, even though I use Windows 90% of the time (because most of my programs and games are Windows-only). OS X's GUI is basically a digital representation of the cases (shiny enough to make your head hurt). There is also a relative lack of 3rd party software support, especially in the games department.

IMO, OS X is only good for people who are new to computers (and are immune to headaches). The GUI is very simplistic and intuitive, and you can do all a normal person does on a computer, like go on Facebook and check e-mail. That is all it really has going for it.  tongue

Yeah, that's what I think.
Btw, if you know UNIX and have physical access to a Mac, you can hack almost any Mac very easily.

Re: Mac Vs PC

@fire: Mac hardware is exactly what you would get on a Pc of the same price, and osx pwns windows in all aspects, and then there's bootcamp for gamers.

Also, Apple has the best customer service of.any.computer company.

Plus, I hate it when people say macs are for noobs. They sure are noob friendly, but have more professional and advanced features than windows. Consider for example the built in http server Apache and the built in vnc viewer and server.

Why do you think so many pros like web programmers and graphic designers use Mac?

Mac even comes with a screen video recorder. Windows doesn't have that does it?

As for software support you'll find that Mac has lots of slick apps for everything windows can do. Remember you can bootcamp of you are a real hard gamer. A bit of vdrift every now and again is enough for the likes of me. My life is happier without games.

Windows Registry is very cool[/sarcasm]

Actually, it's just like any other Apache server, but if it hurts you so much there's MAMP, the Mac LAMP equivalent, and XXAMP  smile

Yes, I've used a third-party screen recorder to make a tutorial for school (I had to help them fix a IT problem) on Windows, and it was slow and buggy.

The Windows Registry is great, as it allows for a universal place to store simple data for apps.

Then why doesn't it run my software correctly, but it runs correctly on Linux with LAMP?

That's interesting. I've heard the Registry is the root of all evils on Windows. Causes errors, very dangerous to try and fix anything in it either, in case Windows decides it doesn't want to boot anymore.

Maybe you don't have PHP installed and configured correctly? Like I said, use MAMP, it uses completely separate files so that everything is more manageable.

Mind recommending one to me? I couldn't really find anything nice. The one I used was a top rated one.

That is not true. It is just as dangerous to mess with the registry as it is to mess with the system/application data on a Mac.

I have the default config. It runs most things, but doesn't support everything I do.
Anyway, you can't edit the httpd.conf in Apple's, can you? I couldn't find it.

What about the fact that the Registry degrades and breaks down after lots of programs installed and uninstalled, etc.

It's in one of the Unix directories. go to / and make sure you have invisible folders to be shown.

That's the one I used  tongue
