PennMUSH or TinyMUSH.
Would you know exactly how to do it?
This is for once you've got connected to the MUD.
This is for setting up the MUD. It involves config files.
No, I do not run a MUD. I misunderestimated the amount of time it would take to create the world. When you get a MUD, you have to create EVERYTHING. It's a bit like creating an adventure map in minecraft but less tedious.
Also, don't go into the censored-name file unless you Have To and your parents are not there because Every Single Swear Word And Rude Word is in there. So don't have your little brother or sister reading over your shoulder.

Ok. I got a mud set up, I just need to port forward. I'm using the coffeemud codebase, so if anyone wants to learn some of that, that would be great.
@XenoK: Great! I'll add you on the list.
@Dinoclor: Thanks, but I already have Coffeemud set up. Do you want to help out?

Sure.
As for port forwarding, look for your router here.

What's your router? I'll try to help you find the port-forwards instructions.

Couldn't find one for CoffeeMUD specifically. You *should* be able to get it working. It's the default guide for if you can't find the program.

Already tried that exact same guide it seems like I did everything right, but when I use a port checker, it says the port is closed. I can send a screen shot if you like.

Well, I think I know the problem. It's probably my private ip. I'm not sure what I have to put there. From my understanding, I was supposed to make a static ip, then use that for my private ip. I have to mess around with that later. If that doesn't work, can't I just plug my computer right into my router? If so, I guess I can do that. My only problem, is the only computer close enough to my router is a really crappy Ubuntu computer. I'll have to re setup the mud. Also, it has 1 gb of ram. Would that be enough?

It might work. I don't know how much ram you need, but you could buy some more if it isn't. You could try dyndns if you need a static ip.

That's one of the things I need help with. I'm 99% sure it'd be fantasy, but as for the name and that kind of stuff, I haven't a clue.
Could I help? I like to do that sort of stuff, but I'm not very good at programming...
I think a sci-fi MUD would be really interesting.

Coffeemud isn't really set up for sci-fi. We'd have to re-code most of the code. I'll add you to the list in a bit. Also, you can help with ideas, as well as creating rooms (very very easy), and also just help out new players.

I have an idea. I may be able to do something that may just work. I have to rewire everything in my house though That's ok.
