Re: FutureSight Technologies

Today marks the first anniversary of our founding in April 7, 2012!

To celebrate, we released an alpha of our new forum system, FutureBB. This is a simple PHP-MySQL forum, but it has a couple awesome features, such as one-click style add-ons, a perfect URL system, and more.

We are also launching FutureSight Hardware today, which will allow you to order powerful servers and soon personal computers for low prices.

Check it all out on our website!

Not right now. We currently only have the test site, which is not publicly accessible.
Once the full version is released, we do plan on porting our site forums to FutureBB.

Some systems don't let you modify .htaccess. It also doesn't give you the config.xml until after .htaccess is modified, and if it can't, it won't let you. I'll make a patch for that.

Hey guys, finally managed to get FutureBB running on xampp, and I must say, this is a pretty awesome forum system.

Re: FutureSight Technologies

I'm trying to run FutureBB on my Raspberry Pi (making PHP, PHPMyAdmin, MySQL, and nginx work together is hard btw  tongue ), but no matter what I do to dispatcher.php, I get the error:

http://i.imgur.com/dYx4DnK.png

I made sure the mysqli.php file is there (apparently can't find it, looking at the code to the dispatcher), the sql database is set up, and all the file permissions are ok (and completely bypassing that code in the dispatcher just makes a blank page).

Any suggestions/things I might have done wrong?

Do you have mysql-client installed on the server?  I'm pretty sure you need that for PHP MySQL.

Open the file config.xml, and it should look for something like this:

Code:

<type>mysqli</type>

If anything else is inside the <type> tag or it doesn't exist, then you need to make it "mysqli".

Re: FutureSight Technologies

And one more thing, futurebb is stocked with a config.xml that you need to delete.
To avoid problems in dispatcher, could the futurebb developers remove the config.xml file before you release?

Yep, it's mysqli....

Also tried installing mysql-client as Geono suggested... didn't work either, even after a reboot.  sad

That error only triggers when the driver file for the database type you specified doesn't exist.
This is the code:

Code:

// Initialize the database
if (!file_exists(FORUM_ROOT . '/app_resources/database/' . $db_info['type'] . '.php')) {
    echo '<p><b style="color:#F00">Fatal error</b><br />An invalid database type was specified in config.xml. Please check that a driver exists for the type you have specified and try again.</p>'; die;
}

So please check that the file app_resources/database/mysqli.php exists. If it doesn't, that means that the archive didn't extract correctly.

I am aware of this code, i commented it out in hopes of getting through (just gave a blank page though).

mysqli.php is indeed in /var/www/app_resource/database/mysqli.php... Now i'm just gonna guess that PHP isn't quite set up correctly, even though PHPMyAdmin and a test info page load fine...

I have only tested it on XAMPP on Windows and on my web host. Once I get Apache working on Linux I will try it there.

It appears that in one of the patches, the file config.xml got put in the zip file. If that file exists before you start installation, please delete it.

Re: FutureSight Technologies

So from what it seems, the installation process is much trickier than it looked at first. If your server has the right settings by default, it is fairly easy to install. However, if anything is different, such as not being able to overwrite the .htaccess file, not having AllowOverride on, not having the right Apache modules installed, etc. then it won't work. I will write a guide explaining all of the settings that need to be in place to allow FutureBB to install.
