I went on the alpha and it won't work. I have Flash installed, but it won't work on this site or the alpha site.

I suggest you switch to Chrome or Firefox and use that.
Internet Explorer has a history of problems with the Scratch website and Flash.I've never had a problem with the site when I got IE9 http://imageshack.us/m/861/6788/smilek.png
He doesn't mean for everyone, but these problems are more common on IE in general.

I've never liked Firefoxed or Chrome... I probably will get Chrome if I have to. Flash works fine on other sites. It just doesn't work on Scratch. It is a bug in the scratch website.

Oh. I'm having the Geek Squad help me fix it, so wait for a while and I'll see.

I have the same problem. Youtube and all other flash-based sites worked perfectly fine, but not scratch. And it's not just on the alpha scratch site; I have these problems on the main site too (only when I try to play in flash, java works fine). My question: why is scratch not addressing this browser problem, and why is Internet Explorer so 'bad'?

This problem isn't limited to Scratch, there are some sites where IE will not load Flash applets properly at all. For example, there are users who experience similar problems when trying to play Facebook games or attempt to use banking websites.
The Scratch Team has a hard time addressing the browser issue because it usually has to deal with the way Flash applets load in the IE browser itself. Often times the solution is not a site fix but a fix with your computer and/or browser. And the solution is often different for every user: sometimes it could be a simple as reinstalling Adobe Flash, or getting rid of add ons, or clearing the cahce, or downgrading to an older version of Flash or IE; other times it might be as complex as playing around with the registry and getting rid of Microsoft Silverlight.
Around 2011, both Adobe Flash and Microsoft have admitted that there are problems, and it hasn't been getting any better. I know it's annoying to hear to switch over to a different browser, but until Flash and Adobe figure out why IE has so much trouble with Flash applets and other Flash-related graphics, there really isn't much that can be done.
