Almost ironic that the controversy of this thread isn't about a religious topic, but rather about whether we can discuss religion.
I would say this:
Use this thread for its original purpose and let the mods/scratch team decide if it is appropriate; there really isn't a point to discussing whether we can discuss something when it has already over our heads (ha! I used that expression!).
That is, unless you think you've thought of something the admins won't think of, in which case, by all means, bring it to their attention.
Edit: just realized the hypocrisy of that post.

That is kind of odd...But yes. Let the Scratch Team handle it. Meanwhile until they do, please stay on topic.

I believe that when stuff like that happens, it's usually because someone else put it there.

Let it continue, I'm looking forward to a civilized discussion of the sacred book with my like-minded peers-

As long as the guidlines are followed, there will not be another incident.

Please elaborate on the incident.

Well (to be on topic), I've read the whole Bible a few times. Apparently, if you read about 4 pages every day, you can get through the whole thing in a year.
I think the Bible is a very fascinating book. A piece of literature made up of 66 individual books, written by a total of about 40 different people over a period of more than one and a half thousand years. It's stunning how consistent it all is.

Wow, you guys make lots of posts without reading the previous posts first
I agree with calebxy, although I haven't read it as much as he has. I've read it almost halfway. The book of Proverbs is definitely a great book. It's also amazing how all the pieces fit together.

I agree. The book of Proverbs is brilliant! It is literally a book just full of excellent advice!

I started reading one.
I had to put it down right away. I didn't understand.
I also went to church once. Didn't like that, either. He flicked water in my face, talked for an hour, and then we sang.
I have opinions, and these were my best.
Though I do have to say the first (what I think is) chapter was good. Maybe I'll skim through the rest.

Is it not edited too?

What, you mean changed over time? No, it's not. Translations of the Bible tend to use the oldest manuscripts available, so even if the later manuscripts were changed (which they almost completely weren't), that would be irrelevant to modern translations, as those aren't being used.

I mean were the books edited at all to be similar and consistent, to have similar language used?

Though something you have to bear in mind is the advances in understanding of the languages used at the time (namely Hebrew, Greek, and Aramaic (I think)). So in light of new information, people can translate the manuscripts better, meaning that some fairly old translations (such as the King James version) aren't actually entirely accurate. But they are still almost completely right; normally just a few grammar things.

The only editing done was to translate the scrolls from Hebrew and Greek into English, and almost every other language too. The only time that anything changed, was if that particular meaning didn't have a word in the language that it was being translated to, but there is always a good replacement so that doesn't make a difference.

Yep, though some translations actually leave the word as it is if there isn't an accurate enough word for it in the other language.

Which version did you try? Some are harder to understand than others. As for church, almost all churches are different, Which type did you go to?
(That is normally in the name of a church, Baptist, Catholic, Church of latter day Saints, ect.

Added a warning, but if ST thinks I should remove the reference, I shall.

I've heard of a typo in one version that was, well, disastrous. It's probably the same one.
