This is a topic to discuss the Bible. This is to be a friendly discussion, and I will be checking daily to make sure it stays friendly. You can tell others where you're currently reading, interesting things you found in a passage, ask questions about things you don't understand, and other related things. This is for people reading or people that have read the Bible. If you haven't read the Bible before, first of all, I would recommend it, secondly, please don't post about it until you have read it, unless you are asking a question. Thirdly, this topic is within the guidelines. The description for this section, What I'm Reading and Playing, reads like this, Discuss books, TV, movies, art, music, or videogames that inspire you. The Bible is a book that inspires me, so as long as people are respectful of my beliefs, there is no problem. If you choose not to agree with me on this topic, I will respect that decision, but please don't make a comment that goes against the guidlines, attacking my topic.
Thanks, and Scratch On!

I'll just start this off by telling you where I'm reading right now. I've been reading in the book of Proverbs, and there is a lot of good truths for everyday life in there.

Topics about religion aren't allowed here. There was this one incident where it got controversial, and then...yeah, the rest is history.

This is not specifically about religion. It is a discussion about a book, the Bible.
Besides, in another forum, Paddle2See said there is currently no rule against it, provided it fits the guidelines for the forums. This being the, What I'm Reading and Playing section, and the Bible being a book, I believe I am within the boundaries.

I meant because the topic is religious in nature. Sure, the book itself can be taken in an entirely non-religious way, but it has deep connections to religion.
EDIT: I also found this once

I doubt the admins will agree with you there.

Well, to quote Paddle2See on the subject:
It's a rule we had in the old Miscellaneous forum because religious topics tended to require constant monitoring to keep them civil. They were just too much work to keep open so they were eventually not allowed at all - along with some other contentious areas such as Politics. There is currently no restriction on religious topics in any of our forums - provided they fit the forum guidelines and people are respectful of other people's beliefs.
He also says this:
However, I don't feel that an in-depth religious discussion is appropriate for this particular topic at this time. ...
and frankly I'm feeling a very similar sentiment here given past horrors of religious topics on the forums.
I'm going to send a message to the other admins and ask how they feel about this topic being here. It's still young and it at least hasn't gotten off in the undesired direction that most other topics related to religion have gotten off into.

I'm not exactly on board with religious topics. I don't even think they're allowed.

If your worried about a flame war of some kind, don't worry. I said I'll check it every day and keep it civil, and that is exactly what I meant. I understand your concern though, I've seen what two opposing viewpoints can do, and it can get ugly. But this is why I asked people to not post if they hadn't read the Bible. Besides, this fits the guidlines, so I don't see the problem here.

Well, something might be easier said than done. Back then religious and political topics generated the most reports (about 50 or so reports in a day!), and the amount was more than the admins could handle even if they were on top of things and even if the thread started off with non-negative intentions; so the consensus back then was no religious or political topics in the forums.
The new forum structures does present some new challenges regarding religious and political topics, and I think most Scratcher here are rather wary about introducing related topics given past forum history. Even I'm very wary myself. Again, I'll have the other admins come take a look and see what they have to say about this thread.

Well, please do. I'm confident that I'm within the boundaries, I wouldn't have posted this otherwise. I'd like it if I could just discuss the Bible with other people, and see what they think. I'd also like to know the administrators' position on this. I await their response with great anticipation.

If you don't like religious topics, then don't post. Simple solution to a simple problem. This topic is for people who want to discuss the Bible, not people to downgrade religious topics.

That's just not how it works around here... I'm sorry but I think(actually I know) this topic will cause problems in this environment. You really should remove it.

I've seen the guidlines, and if everyone would follow them, there would be no problem. Besides, most of the comments on this topic are telling me I shouldn't have this topic, and I've already explained the fact that I can. If it ever does cause problems, I promise I will remove it. But until then, it stays.

In Religion class, we are reading about Saul in 1 Samuel. We haven't gotten to David yet.
Saul was an interesting man, and his story provides us with many lessons.
P.S. Thanks for posting something that was on topic btw.
