They don't mean projects where you say goodbye and quit. They mean projects that say by to 1.4 and welcome in 2.0.

So, according to your dictionary...

1. 10x better.

Accept his opinion, even if yours differs.
That's what I have to say to everyone. If you like 2.0 that's fine but for Pete's sakes if others don't like it you don't have to force it on them.

P.S. I STILL haven' had my question answered- if I download a project made in 1.4 from the 2.0 site, will it still work in 1.4?

Well it couldn't have been made in 1.4 if it had those blocks now could it?  tongue
But if that's true then good, as that's the only real worry I had about 2.0.

Interesting thread!
I totally get how many of you'd feel this way. In fact, I'll admit that I'm going to miss the old (current) site. Not because the new site won't be better - (I honestly believe it will be). But because we've all spent so much time on the site as it is now - and have grown to love it the way it is.

When I was 12 I moved from a house I'd lived in most of my life into a different one. In a lot of ways it was nicer: more space, newer, it even had more light. But I still totally missed the old one because I'd spent so much time growing up there, and the place meant so much to me.

So it doesn't matter if the place you are going is nicer - you are still leaving a place that you've really loved for a long time. I think it's a similar thing with the transition to 2.0. And while I think eventually it'll be awesome, in the short term it'll be tough - and to some extent, kind of sad (but also happy at the same time? I dunno, it's hard to explain..)

I've been thinking that we'll need to have some kind of sendoff for the old site - like a going away party. But I'm not sure what that should look like, or how it'd work. If any of you have ideas about that, please comment me about it.

Will the forums have all the old posts and be the same?

Only part that change matters in . . .

2.0 can convert 1.4 to 2.0 but 1.4 cannot convert 2.0 to 1.4.

Alright I'm ok with it if they keep the download feature.

Sorry nama, but the projects that only allow you to play if downloaded still will be unplayable, except in Scratch 1.4.

Usually, the following script is used for online restriction:

when gf clicked
set (variable) to ((0) / (0))
restrict online play
This works because
((0) / (0))
is impossible, and in Scratch 1.4, a script stops at a mathematical impossibility, but the Flash and Java players don't. But even if you download a project in 2.0, it will still be in Flash, and since it is restricted in the Flash Player, it won't work in 2.0.

There are two solutions:

1) Use 'See Inside' and remove the online play restriction.
2) Save a copy of Scratch 1.4 and play the projects in that.

Oh, OK, but my only curiosity is, when 2.0 comes out, can you download a project and view it in 1.4, with 2.0 blocks turning into Obsolete! blocks?

Re: Anyone kinda want 1.4 scratch to stay? <:(

im disappointed with 2.0 alpha right now im not seeing any of the suggested features or many new blocks in fact most of this is just putting 2 or 3 blocks into 1 block like the looks.

the scene blocks were there most of the time.

and WOW LAG
the video is kindof impressive though . i mean i could probably make a project with a sprite thats a box and you have to lock your face in it and then it trims off all video except for the location where your face is.
and possibly tracking motion. but still the lag is alot and if this is how its gonna be then
laptops like mine will be unable because the dropdowns are cutoff and too big for the screen. i dont really understand backpack. and i think you should have just kept the original editor. i like the original editor better because you could better free draw and on this you have pixel blocks instead of transparency boxes. ITS CONFUsing and we all might have to relearn how to use scratch again.
so if this is gonna be how it is im gonna stick with 1.4 its alot easier for understanding.
and in 2.0 you are gonna confuse alot of newcomers with scenes or video motion and direction. and alot of newcomers would not make many projects.
background is easier to understand for newcomers.
and also once again im not seeing alot of blocks that were in mods of scratch that were useful such as the reverse text or when recieved. And there are too many columns

you should stick with the same interface youve been using since 1.01 and even netscratch was very similiar ive been on here since 2009 and loved it but this might discourage me if this is gonna be the way things are
currently i think there is more cons than pros.
i wanna see the downloadable version of it first and hopefully the downloadable version will look alot like the normal scratch interface with an easier to understand screen and controls.
as well as what did you guys do to the graphics and skins for the blocks.
the blocks look..... unusual.

I think ima stick with 1.4 as right now people can still upload projects with 1.4 and 1.3 or whatever version they are using. I HOPE THAT WILL STILL BE THE SAME.
sorry about rambling on but im scared out of my mind if this is how scratch is gonna look.

Projects made in 1.4 (and earlier) should still work in Scratch 2.0. One thing you can opt for is to create the project in 1.4 first, upload it to the site, and then edit further in Scratch 2.0 editor online.  wink

ok so you will be able to upload 1.4 projects
i still need to know we can download because whats the point of engines if you cant download as i will still be using the offline program as i dont like the idea of even more lag when creating online.

Also im hoping that you guys dont delete all the projects.

I have an idea

CREATE A NEW WEBSITE CALLED SCRATCH2.0
that way you can keep the original site for viewing and then have 2.0 website for those who want to use online editor.
THAT WOULD BE GREAT so you can still see the old website.

im so attached to this site..........i think im gonna cry literally.
im crying literally
i cant believe im so attached and now its gonna be gone.
