Weeeird. Were there any issues during installation?
No, the install went just fine, and I have booted into Ubuntu before. I'll try metacity--replace then startx right now in recovery mode.

Nope, can't start metacity without the GUI. Will get a video of what happens when I startx.

The programs I generally use the most are Audacity, Chromium, whatever text editor the environment comes with, and Wine, with Spotify, Steam, and Solitaire.
Offline
Chromium, Scratch, VLC, music, cool desktop backgrounds, Gimp that kind of thing

Oh yeah and I use Scratch on Wine because that's easiest for me as I have 64-bit. Or I use the prealpha.

I prefer Linux Mint.
It's like Ubuntu but with a better menu and no unity.
If the UI is the only reason you don't like Ubuntu...
1. Install Ubuntu
2. Install your desktop environment of choice.
3. ???
4. Profit!!!!
Of course, there are plenty of valid reasons to prefer other distros if that's your preference.

I had a Windows 7 (which I loved). That was until jji7skyline, my brother came and said 'ahhhhh! It's not genuine!' And he gave me a choice of Mac or linux/ubuntu, I chose mac but he said it was gonna be really slow. I got a ubuntu after a few arguments but now I like my ubuntu too! Although I still like my Windows 7 more!

It was a pirated version of Windows 7 so I changed it to a legitimate verison of Ubuntu 12.04.
