I'll try it out in virtualbox, then when we get around to ordering the other half of the parts for the new box, I'll install it as a real OS.
Edit: VIRTUALBOX IS SOOO SLOW! but at least it works. I'm sold.
MOM! CAN I INSTALL UBUNTU NOW? IT WON'T DELETE WINDOZE OR BOOKFACE DON'T WORRY

xD
Try a few desktops like Gnome and KDE as well as Unity and see which you like the most. Also, in Virtualbox, you can change settings to make it faster, and you can install a really light desktop like LXDE.

Check your display drivers?
So... How do I do that now? Monday I'll post my specs and a pic of the issue. It was working fine before, but not anymore.

The launcher gets stuck, the icons in the launcher get stuck sometimes, and my computer occasionally freezes. Not to mention it's been acting really slowly.

I've installed deleted Windows on a laptop and installed Ubuntu

Ooooh, fast-o-meter settings. I'll have to try that when I get on the computer.
When we build the new box, I'll probably slap ubuntu on it for real. So everyone else shares the fast and pooey house with 7 windows on it, and I get the beahtiful house that's only ruined by the chunky crt monitor. (Hey, it goes to 1600x1200, and my mom can't read it, so it's parent protection! )

I plan on doing that with my laptop, except using Lubuntu instead of Ubuntu.

Isn't that somewhat subjective? I love Linux's customizability, but I like Windows 7's UI just as much if not more than many of the desktop environments for Linux that I've used. And since there are so many available for Linux anyway, you can't really make an even comparison.

Windows has a lot of viruses. Believe me.

Windows doesn't have viruses if you are actually careful.
