where to begin on a timeline

Most people find history boring, so I decided to make it interesting by writing it like a novel. I decided to begin with a timeline but I dont know when to begin (somewhere bwn 12,000 to 6,000 years. How old do you think the Earth is and bring evidence. Religious discussion for your evidence is allowed, just keep it to the minimum.

Oh this DOES belong here because it involves CREATING a timeline.

Re: where to begin on a timeline

An interesting thread and an interesting discussion. I politely remind people that religion is a very delicate topic, especially in a community as diverse as the Scratch one, and so I ask that whilst people may, as Garr8 suggests, use religion as part of their evidence for the age of the earth, no one uses this as an opportunity to refute or discredit other's reasoning. If this happens this topic will be closed!

Thanks for your understanding and co-operation  smile

Hmm, somehow this idea sounds like an excellent beginning for a novel... maybe even a series... maybe even... films?!  wink

To take an excerpt from this wikipedia page:

"The age of the Earth is 4.54 ± 0.05 billion years (4.54 × 109 years ± 1%).This age is based on evidence from radiometric age dating of meteorite material and is consistent with the ages of the oldest-known terrestrial and lunar samples"

Which would be the age of the universe if today's scientists are to be believed.

:OOOOOO
I've honestly never heard that from anyone.

And uh I'm starting to think this may be a parody considering no one could ever make the entire Earth's history interesting. I mean, it's a cool idea and I'm not discrediting/insulting it, but the Earth has some boring history to work with.

Haha, yup, there's got to be a lot of it where people are huddled against the cold in little mud-huts... or sleeping...  wink  You could write a novel about those bits, entitled "Earth's History: the the years that haven't been done yet years".

Not sure if suggestive wink in relation to last two words in first sentence or agreement shown in whole sentence.  yikes

And wow, you edit fast. I quoted you and it had different words than when I meant to quote it.

I also think there had to have been civilization before the Great Flood, so I think the pre flood civilization was Atlantis and it sank from the flood.

What form of government do you think Atlantis had. I want to say a monarchy, but some believe the pre flood people were highly advanced.

Because, uh, Atlantis was real.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atlantis

Take what you will, but the general professional consensus is that it's fictional.

Also, I am religious but I believe in evolution, simply because there is too much proof for it and it works in easily with what the Bible provides. (IMO, the creation story is either shortened to a week or simply an analogy to the real thing)

This is where the word fictional comes in.
Unless you are agreeing?

Neanderthal's came first if you consider Evolution along with Christianity.
They developed until they were modern humans, when God then put a soul in them.

That's right, blame the Earth  tongue

On the Mars thing:  That's interesting.  I was thinking of a plot (for a book that I'll never write) in which and advanced civilization of humans come to earth at the last moment to save us from catastrophe (probably not at the end of the book, it would be a let down to save everything with a super-advanced civilization coming out of nowhere xD).

Of course, I then had to deal with the fact that they kind of abandoned earth for thousands of years and seem to have gone out of their way to trick humanity into thinking it had evolved naturally. I was thinking that it was a long-term evolutionary experiment (until they had to save us from global warming or nuclear war).

Or (if you're quasi-meshing the two together) you could say that Adam and Eve were neanderthals until they ate from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil.  Of course, then you'd have God giving the neanderthals dominion over the earth and one would have to wonder: if we are a different species, does this apply to us?

I wa watching the History Channel and it said it is very possible that we descended from extreterrestrials. Some people claim that the beings from mythology were space aliens which is surprisingly accurate if you go deep into the study of mythology.

For example, Babylonia gods and Anasazi kachinas looked like they were wearing space gear. In Aboriginal mythology, the Wandijah (i might have mispelled that), from description, look exactly like astronauts. In Hindu religion, Garuda was a spiritual bird that look somewhat like Ho-Oh. It was described as being made of metal, so it could have been a futuristic airplane.

It's generally believed that H. sapiens sapiens didn't descend from H. neanderthalensis directly, although there could have been interbreeding between members of H. neanderthalensis and Cro-Magnons (early H. sapiens sapiens).

(Things like "Curiosity" have some very out there ideas which shouldn't be considered widely supported, though they often have experts on the matter and are very credible nonetheless)

But the whole idea of coming from Aliens seems very far fetched.
If our previous species ever knew how to fly to Earth, we obviously would remember this technology as a species.

Also, I can't find any images of Babylonian gods or (specifically Anasazi) kachinas. The Kachina images I did find resembled more Native Americans or groups which paint their bodies and use feathers.

What does looking like a Ho-Oh have to do with anything? It's not like they would invent Pokemon before us, it's an original idea. The Garuda was most likely not an airplane, because it is very easy to imagine a bird as metal.

You seem to think that past people had no imagination or creativity, and that everything came from something else at one point, which is completely untrue.
