Now thats just mean to Vikaros. Please respect others views, even if you happen to take the steortype on everything. I personally think the Atom Smasher is a great idea and hope that it works. If not...bye bye France. But anyway, it should work. This isn't the first one they have built people. Its just the biggest.
Thanks Bobby500. No worries though, the mad scientist joke was funny
For those just getting here this discussion all started echoing concerns about CERN's Large Hadron Collider (here's its history http://lhc-milestones.web.cern.ch/LHC-Milestones/) which can accelerate particles smaller than atoms into one another to try to figure out how the universe works. This is to say that physicist realize that they do not yet understand how physics works at a quantum level, and are working hard to change that. They claimed the accelerator was safe(http://public.web.cern.ch/public/en/LHC/LHC-en.html) but some speculated that it would cause the destruction of the world by recreating black holes.
What happened?

The first tests, where particles were sent around the giant ring, were successful, but they will not have a chance to test actual collisions till next year:

HOW IS THE BIG-BANG NOT REAL! it's dum b to say that! OBVIOUSLY NO ONE EXCEPT GOD COULD CREATE THE BIG BANG, OR THE UNIVERSE, OR PLANETS, OR SPACE, OR ANYTHING! Come on! It's just a theory. Eyeryone can have thier opinions (I don't believe the continental drift theory). It may be proved by this collider. Or maybe disproved.

what's this doing on the scratch forums? anyway, i have proof that the big bang DID NOT HAPPEN. I probley should not say why on here, because it'll just make a big argument.

Agree, don't say it.
And that was HILARIOUS!!!
If the entire Earth shrank into a black hole, it would be 3 cm wide. Nothing to be worried about... unless you were on Earth at the time...

Yep, I heard about this in a Discover magazine. People were really worried, calling them 'mad scientists' blah blah blah... But I don't think they will suceed.

Submit it to a scientific journal and you'll get the Nobel Prize for science sometime in the next 10 years.
If, of course, your standard for "proof" is remotely similar to that of any scientifically minded person.

Just out of interest, what your alternative explanation for the things explained by continental drift?

Not cells, atoms. The black holes are atom sized. And you can make some very interesting particles in particle accelerators (that's what they're called) that could even tell us how life began on Earth! (No offense, anybody.)
I said CELLS and whatnot . Cause I'm lazy and couldn't remember the smallest thing in life (see, very lazy and very tired- bad combination)
the smallest things in life are 1/infinity of a molecule they keep getting smaller (since a molecule is a part of an atom and infinity goes on forever)

I agree that science does some MEGA WEIRD and unnecessary stuff. But I am sure they thought it through in such a way to not destroy earth... they will probably take A huge amount of precautions <{ }>http://scratch.mit.edu/forums/viewtopic.php?id=9534#req_message they do screw up well, then they are being idiots but they probably won't http://scratch.mit.edu/forums/viewtopic.php?id=9534#req_message they will not conduct the experiment.

Look at the username of the person above.
He/she exists.
That proves that the big bang exists. XD
Back on track: A kid at my school once said that there was a 50/50 chance of the world getting swallowed by a black hole, and that Germany has the whole world in their hands. Quite stupid if you ask me, especially since it was only a test run.

The LHC particle accelerator only mimics what happens in cosmic wave background radiation, which hits the Earth all the time, so it's not very likely to create a black hole.
I do not like arguing about whether the big bang/god exists or not, because it's impossible to prove each other false. For example, someone could say, "Who created the big bang?" And I could say, "No one. It appeared due to quantum physics. Who created god?"
"God has always been around. How come the big bang happened when and how it did?"
"It had to happen somehow, and it formed at the beginning of time, so you can't ask when."
"But things can't just appear."
"In that case, Things can't be around forever."
"god can."
"How?"
"Because god can do anything."
"In that case, why did god make the world at the time he did?"
"Because he was tired of all that darkness and loneliness."
"After infinity years?"
etc.

Finally! But religion is merely a placeholder for what science has not explained yet. Remember when we thought the Earth was at the middle of the universe? Religion. Then we figured it out, and the religion went away simply because we did not need it anymore.
