I'm learning it and I kinda quit scratch a few days ago. I aim to be fluent in the language by the end of the year, and I'm going to (hopefully) publish to the iOS app store next year

That is great. Feel free to add me as a friend on Stencyl, my username is the same as it is here.

Mine's Badger. I'm still pretty bad on it, but I'm reading stencylpedia and feeling more comfortable with it every day. I'm working on a demo game right now which is just to get me used to the program etc.
Can't wait to get Stencyl Studio and publish things

At first, I seriously thought Stencyl would be the next step in programming. It was disappointing.

It's quite hard at first glance, but after about an hour or two its simple.

Is anyone else doing the Stencyl Jam? You could win a bunch of money.

Depends on how quickly I learn it. I'm on chapter 3 of stencylpedia

I would enter newground's stencyl jam, but I'm too busy on a project I'm making. It's gonna be like the first Zelda, on the NES, but with a more developed plot, and you'll be able to choose your character.
I would join it if it were shorter, though-3 months seems too long for a little game jam.

I believe Stencyl is actually a great step after Scratch, but would highly recommend that you'd have enough experience on Scratch to go that far. I like the fact that Stencyl has stuck to a block system, but still think it is a little more advanced than Scratch.
For people who do not know sbout Stencyl, here is a vague idea.
when gf clicked repeat until < (timer) > [10] > go to [mouse-pointer v] // Stencyl is very similar to the Scratch Block System. end think [Stencyl is similar to Scratch!] for (any) secs

I'm not saying it's hard. Just unnecessarily and overly complicated.
Also kinda n00bish.

Meh, I'm learning it all the same. Gonna try and make a living off it for as long as possible.

Actually, I'd say it's way too game-oriented. A good programming language can be used for several uses beyond gaming. For that reason, it's why I think it's better to learn a more general programming language that's commonly used in game-making like C++, Java, or even Python rather than going into Stencyl (especially if your ideal goal is to go working for a video company. That demonstrates more programming flexibility on a resume). Actually, if anything, I think as a semi-step after Scratch it would be great to have a drag-and-drop programming language that more closely mimics a real programming language (much like the way Waterbear works).
Not that Stencyl is bad, but the idea Stencyl should absolutely be the next step after Scratch (as the title implied) does not fit everyone.

For those interested in using Stencyl, I'd recommend you have a few Stencyl lessons first, because I've tried it out and have been aware that it actually is harder than Scratch, by far. So copy and pate this link to go to the Stencylpedia -

I hope that helped.

I am making one at the moment (well not for 2 weeks though)

Some of them are easy, others are harder. Learning Scratch makes learning Stencyl a heck of a lot easier.
