Although it's somewhat weird that it shows that it was based on your own project, I think it's a useful tool so you, as well as others, can see how a project may have changed through numerous versions and changes. Even if your project may have been not be a direct remix of somebody else's project, some people might want to know what changes you made to your project, whether it's fixing some problems, or adding new features.

But couldn't you just upload it by the same name as the original?
You could, but then you wouldn't be able to see the previous version of the project, since it would be over-written. Also, it wouldn't appear in "My Friend's Latest Projects". Generally I would only re-upload if there is a minor bug to fix.
