Is the Scratch Team releasing the Flash Player as open-source. If I contact the ST directly, can any arrangements be made? (I would like to know, as I would like to create a Flash Player mod for some custom blocks and such) I would prefer an answer from the ST, but any community member is welcome (if they have a the right answer, of course)

Right now the flash player is still under heavy development. We're not sure yet whether or not we will release the source, but I think it's likely. However, it probably won't happen before we reach a stable, finished release point. If and when we do release it, we'll post an announcement, but it may be a while.

Are there any legal issues regarding decompilers? If so, would it be too much to ask for a member of the ST to compile a class I wrote? I'm starting to feel a little desperate--how can imagination, innovation, and inspiration happen with proprietary software? It's why I'm part of the open-source community, and I'm sure that's why you are, too.

I'm sure that the ST will be realising the new Scratch 2.0 and the Flash Player as open source this year. 2.0 should be out during the summer. They usually realease the code after a little while, as they need to get rid of the most of the bugs.
