Well, the history behind me finding out about Scratch is a long story, but I'll shorten it a little:
I sat down miserably at my desk, I loved ICT but I just wasn't prepared for this kind of thing, it was going to be boring I knew. "Class, have you ever wondered how traffic lights work? Obvisouly a man doesn't just sit there turning each color green to amber. Traffic Lights are programmed." My Teacher said. This was starting to make me wonder what we were about to learn. "So, for our ICT topic we are focusing on Programming, and we are going to use a program called 'Scratch'." My Teacher then explained. "With Scratch you can create games and animations." She said. Something just clicked, this sounded so interesting, so when the bell went, I ran home logging onto my computer and immediately downloaded scratch. The next week, I showed my teacher what I have created. "Wow! This is brilliant, do you mind if I share this with the class?" She asked. "No! Please, I don't want a fuss." I said, but she showed them anyway. And so there it is...

I heard about Scratch in an after school computer class. I'm so glad I took it! Otherwise I wouldn't be here. On second thought, my friend is into computer programming, but he uses HTML and Javascript and Flash. I asked him how to make games and he said that you could make games in Scratch. So I heard about Scratch from 2 people.

Gifted teacher in 4th grade. We were given 3 options for a school project: Pivot Stickfigure Animator, Scratch, or Alice. I chose Pivot Stickfigure animator. Then my friend (on scratch, guyinc, just made his account) showed me scratch. I downloaded it when I got home. I loved it. My friend did too, but he never cared to upload till about a month ago. I joined a year after I was introduced, he has had it since 1.3 came out!

I was taking a course on science and engineering last summer and we were using scratch for part of the day. I created a scratch account last September or so but I never did anything until Magnie's chat.py came out. People were talking about the scratch website and it then occurred to me that I wasn't doing anything on my account. I started doing stuff and that is the whole story!

I was in the school's computer lab and I saw a program called Scratch on it, it was being taught to the older grades, and so I asked the teacher about it and started messing with it testing out stuff, and then I downloaded it on my computer. I was pretty frustrated that you could only upload it to Scratch, so I made a scratch account and now I'm not as frustrated.

LOL all of your "I got introduced at school stories" Reminded me of something. I was doing a PowerPoint computer graphics class after school, and on the last day, out teacher surprised us by saying "Today, I will teach you how to import your graphics from PowerPoint to Scratch." We were working in groups of three, and I was working with the friend who introduced me to scratch originally, and another friend who knew nothing about it. We got to work creating sprites for the "game" we had planned on making, and imported them into scratch. We decided that we were going to make a scrolling game, which was ironic because I was the only one who actually knew how to scroll. So while everyone else was making there sprites walk across the screen and say "hello" as they bounced off the walls and turned upside down, I was sitting at the computer, trying to explain the concept of scrolling to the very person who introduced me to scratch. After I left the class, I swear I cracked up.

I heard of scratch from my school and got really interested in it...by the way, I am not sure if this should be in the New Scratcher Forums...you might want to ask a moderator to move this thread into another category. Sorry for the inconvenience
