Yes, I am going to make a website. Not just any website, but a site for beginning, developing, and experienced spriters. Pokémon spriters! However, this is not to be taken lightly. Let me put it in bold, so that it has a sort of sense of urgency-
I am going to make a website.
This means that there are going to be hundreds, if not thousands of people who could end up viewing that website. So, case in point, I will not allow newbie spriters into this project. Yes, I know that seems cruel (it probably is XP), but I want to make a neat, detailed, informative website that can explain everything from basic to advanced spriting topics to a complete beginner. If you are totally sure of your mad ninja spriting skillz, then please make a post below explaining what you can do, along with a Scratch program (don't go overboard with the programming) with an example of each of your skills. I will tell you if you're in the project or not, and I will inform everyone on our first bit of work once I have enough spriters.
UPDATE:
↪ Yes, I'm a Scratcher now! This is sure to make things a lot easier, in terms of updates, plans, and discussions.
I need everyone who wants to join this project confirm it, as the list of participants is pretty sketchy.
NOTE: yes, I am a spriter. I wouldn't be doing this otherwise! And, I'll be the one to make the website and set it up. I will ask for peoples' opinions on it and change it according to popular demand, but I will not accept any help in building the website. I'm kind of a solitary person, and sharing an account with someone I don't know makes me uncomfortable.
People who have confirmed participation:

Unless they are completely built from scratch pixel by pixel, it's not spiriting.
It's splicing. No one seems to get it.

No, I consider this to be a form of spriting, as do hundreds others. We are working with sprites, editing them pixel-by-pixel, and, well... spriting. Although, I was planning on adding a part of the website dedicated to scratch spriting, which is as you described: building a sprite from scratch.
But thanks for that comment, I hadn't considered that.

Hundreds of people don't view every site in existence.
Don't be disappointed if you don't have as many viewers as you expect.

I was also expecting that. However, I will be advertising the proposed site on all of my favorite sites where there are tons of Pokemon-obsessed freaks like me.
Plus, I was talking more of monthly views, and if the site's really THAT unpopular, annual views.
Thanks for your comment, too. So much feedback, and I've only just posted the idea!

I do know some HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, but rest assured that I am completely aware of how to make a website. (Combined with the fact that the host website does pretty much everything for me...)

Ok good, I was worried you were an over-ambitious noob.

Wiimaster? Is he a Pokemon- and Spriting-obsessed person, too?
It's great to see so many different people looking at this thread! Thank you all for your comments and feedback; everything that you guys said have been taken into consideration and will doubtless prove useful when I'm setting up the site. Thanks again!

Splicing is merging two things (in this case, sprites), as far as I know. Other ways to edit pre-made sprites such as recoloring, aren't the same as splicing.

Yes. Even if you already know quite a bit about the website and what it'll be about, you can't expect "hundreds or even thousands" of visitors without even having started on the website. You should care about visitors once you're done with the website and start advertising, especially in forums or other websites related to Pokemon and spriting, and where advertising of this kind is allowed.

He's easily one of the most well-known Pokemon spriters, even I know him for that and I don't even like Pokemon.

HERE I AM!
Yes, I do tons of pokemon sprites, if you need examples look at my projects.
Just a general question about the website: What is it? Is it a forum where sprites can get together and show off sprites, work on dexes together, or do contests? Or is it an informative website with guides on spriting and galleries of many peoples work? I need to know what it is before I will join. Otherwise, I am intrigued, you have caught my interest.
Also, what will it be called?
On a side note, my opinion on the spriting/splicing issue is:
If it is made up of parts of another pokemon, you should be able to call that spriting, just not CUSTOM spriting. CUSTOM spriting, or SCRATCH spriting, is starting from, well, scratch. Nothing as a base, no parts of existing sprites. But thats only my opinion.

Did I hear spriting?
I haven't sprited in a while, but I think I could kick myself back in. I'm a big Pokenerd though, so any mistake you make I will get you on
I'd enjoy helping with your spriting collaboration.

It will be a website with a series of tutorials on every aspect of spriting the spriters (which is to say, the people who want to help me with this project) wish to teach. I will try to add a forum in which the founders (us) can meet and discuss improvements to the site, and a separate forum for visitors of the site to ask questions, get help with some part of spriting, and showcase their work for others to critique. I know this is ambitious, but hey, might as well start big. If it's too small no one will feel like helping, and I'll be doing this all by myself and it will be a definite flop. XP
Once enough spriters have joined in (four to six, about), we will get together and that will be our first order of business: coming up with an appropriate, relevant, and catchy name.

Spriting? Where'd you get that? Oh, no, I'm planning on making a site that sells tofu and chopped liver. Who's with me?!
Haha, no, you heard me right. We're going to create a great honkin' website!
And, if you're sure that you want to do this, you are completely welcome to become a spriter.

Both those things are awesome
meany
But this sounds really great! I'm not really good at spriting, but I would probably lurk on it.

Perhaps you'd like to be a part of a design / marketing team. Do you think you'd enjoy either of those? What I mean is, you could be someone who helps me design or advertise the website itself. Of course, these are only ideas for if you decide that you don't want to be a spriter but still want to help with this project.

Those are quite impressive, however, I'm looking for more Pokemans-ish spriters. XP
I'm really sorry, but that's the truth. However, I think that you should make a site or tutorial on how you sprite, as I'm sure quite a few people are interested in that form of art.

Why not get him to put it on your site under "Other spriting styles?"
Now I just need to dig up all my splices and sprites...

Actually, that's a pretty good idea. But for now, let's wait until I:
1) Have enough Pokemon spriters (4 - 6 roughly)
2) Can get us all or mostly online at once
3) Can actually get the tutorials finished, checked, accepted, and uploaded
4) Get the website itself in action
...and only then (sigh) will we have time to discuss this idea. -_-'
It is a good idea, though; I'll keep that in mind.

I'm not very good at tutorials... do you think we could also have a 'gallery' section as well that had a collection of sprites?
You could put it into catagories, like:
Splices
Fakemon
Reposes
Revamps
Trainers
Berries, Items and Pokeballs
Maps and Tiles
Customs
Etc

You people are spewing good ideas everywhere.
I think that'd be a great way to show new spriters what the end result would / should look like, as well as just showcase some of the work done by us fancy-shmancy spriters.
And as for the tutorials, that's fine. You can give me some sprites of yours, and I'll set up the tutorial. The credit for the sprites will go to you, credit for the tut itself will go to me. Sound fair?
