Good job Scratch team. Now the only thing you could add to Scratch is have sprite duplication, seperate scenes (Similar to Costumes), booleans, and a few more Highly Detailed Controls. Nice job though. I used Scratch 1.3 during its beta and it was also great.
scratch is to introduce programming to young people, I still don't understand boolean much and scratch doesn't want to get to advanced.
lol boolean is just a variable where you can only put two values in, which are yes and no. Basically Boolean is just a variable that saves memory space because it ca't hold as much as a variable.
Booleans also make your scripts easier to read because you can test on them directly without having to use one of the comparison blocks (=,<,>) . You could define a boolean named "Enemy_Killed" and set it to TRUE or FALSE as the game went along. Then, in your script, you can say things like
Set Enemy_Killed to TRUE
.
.
IF Enemy_Killed
Change Score by 1
Instead of having to test for a value like you do now
Set Enemy_Killed = 1
.
.
IF Enemy_Killed = 1
Change Score by 1

can anyone PLEASE tell me if it erases all your old projects and/or your older versions of scratch if u download the newest one out?!?!?!
It will replace your older version of Scratch. It is not supposed to erase your old projects - it didn't for me. I have heard of a couple of cases of people losing their projects though. I think it might be because they changed the location where Scratch installs and their projects are still there, only Scratch is looking for them in the wrong place.
gasp!noo.....*cries* my...art...is gone!!!wel, not yet yet,but..NO....*cries* *sniff* my very first project was made with old version!!*cries*

Hi rameninabowl,
What is it that you would like to move? The Scratch folder itself? It should be located in your 'Program Files' directory which is usually found on the primary hard drive (for example, C: ). Where would you like to move it?
Thanks!

Hi, rameninabowl.
Why do you think your art is gone? If you made a project with an earlier version of Scratch it will open in Scratch 1.3. And the installer doesn't delete your files; it just updates the files that came with Scratch originally to the latest version.
So I think if you look, you'll find your old project is still there, although it might not be where you are looking.

Scratch Team...is this possible? Deletion of projects when installing version 1.3? Or is it more likely that the files are just lost in some obscure folder?
GameMan43 - have you tried searching your entire disk drive for .sb files (Scratch projects) including hidden files and folders? It is possible they may be hiding somewhere. What is your operating system on your PC?
I have tried! It couldn't find them!

Hi, all.
The Scratch 1.3 installer does not delete user-created projects. I've tested it carefully. In at least case, someone who thought their projects had been deleted found that they were there after all. So if you think your projects were deleted, restart Scratch and look again; they should still be there.
NOTE: Scratch does replace the old sample projects with new ones. If you edited one of the sample projects and did not save it with a different name, you should be sure to either rename it or make a copy of it outside of the Scratch folder before you update to Scratch 1.3.
The installer only changes files in the Scratch folder, so if you normally keep your projects somewhere else (such as your home folder or on the desktop), they are safe. If you keep your projects inside the Scratch folder, it's a good idea to make a copy of your Scratch projects outside of the Scratch folder before updating to Scratch 1.3.

to be honest, im a little disapointed... there are ver few new things, although i have to admit that the ones that you DID add are things ive wanted for awhile. i am also annoyed that you cant interact with a list. you should be able to make it so that things happen when somthing on the list is clicked! so that you can choose an item from the list, like if you were using scratch to make a test or a "choose your own story" kind of game

I teach in a computer lab with linux for the students - for students working at home on windows with vers 1.3, the earlier linux version won't open the 1.3 vers when these students are here at school. I don't think there's a compatible linux vers for 1.3?

Independent of the operating system, Scratch 1.2 cannot open projects created on Scratch 1.3. However, Scratch 1.3 does open projects created on Scratch 1.2. That is Scratch 1.3 is backwards compatible but Scratch 1.2 is not forwards compatible.

In version 1.3, the 'meshing' blocks that fit around other ones (such as forever) have little arrows on the bottom. Do these do anything?
Hi Jet380,
Those indicate that you can drag the block over a stack of blocks. The stack you dragged over will immediately go inside the block you dragged. This works for every loop block except if...else.
Hope this helps!

Well, you should check where you used to save your projects to. If you saved them into them the Scratch Folder, they might have been installed over. Basically they could all be gone. You can just redownload all the things you've posted. But, otherwise, you should tell Scratch and see if they can do anything about it.
