Sorry, I've had to close this. You see, I found a big problem with our method, and no other method would be efficient enough to work at the right speeds.
The problem with the rotation is hard to explain in words, so I'll be grateful if you could just respect my decision.
Oh, and I'm goanna try and get this out by April 29th! It will be in 2D so there should be plenty of time.

sure! can you use blender? apparently that can be used to make 3D on scratch work.

You see the image behind the menu? well, to keep things less complicated, perhaps it should be at an isometric angle, but it can be rotated to any angle. So you can change the position of the camera, but not the height or the angle you look at the city if that makes sense. So you can rotate the city side-ways not up/down ways.
Of course if it is possible to allow zooms and Z-Rotation then it could be used. We'll have to wait for some 3D programmers to join.

So you want me to create the city in Blender, then render images from a camera rotating around it?
Or do you want me to adapt one of the existing 3D raycasting techniques and use it here?

well for speed the rendering would be better, raycasting might make the graphics look worse and provide a slower experience. so yeah, go for render images. first, we need to know what buildings are being used and their sizes! seen as it's the first night, i'd suggest we wait until we have a few more people and then we can sort out buildings, how the grid will snap-buildings on to it and ect. What i might do is have a top-down build mode, (i'll make the graphics for that, it will merely be colour-coded squares with symbols) then you can make the 3D viewing mode. but for now, let's leave it. okay?

cool! do you think i need to change the title? i might have offended some people and put them off joining.

I'd like to see the final thing, but are you sure scratch can handle it?

I do not play Minecraft.
same! i just heard that it's like simcity, but you don't get to run it, only place random blocks together which sounds BLEEP! then you stare at your creation for ages, rather than get down to management.

if scratch can handle raycasting it can handle this easily! type in Minecraft 3D.
and hey another englishy person! I'm from apostrophe 'ull.

I might try.

Simulating the city will be intensive enough, let alone rendering it. My best guess would be to store all buildings, density info, pollution, healthcare ect in lists, each number being a spot on the city grid. Then a sprite can be used to stamp correct buildings everywhere perhaps every 1 min to refresh the view.

maybe. i've got plenty of experience simulating cities, like with my G:3000 game. it's pretty much a 3D revamp of it, with some additional extras.

right, so are you our 3D programmer? just so you know, it won't be raycasting. have you read the previous messages about this already?

Yeah, I have.
and do you understand how it needs to be programmed? it's at an isometric angle, but rotated freely sideways. Have you played Hotel Giant 1? If you have, you'll know that clicking isometric you can still rotate the camera 3D-ly but with some restrictions.
