I see what your doing... I'll run it from xterm to test because when GDM launches it it's invisible.

I think I found the problem... It's when GDM launches it that I wrote the code wrong... Thanks!

This sounds cool. It would be an Ubuntu mod focused on scratch and any programs that would help make your scratch projects better (eg; sound; music; sprites; etc;)?

Hey guys! I'm wondering if any of you would like to build an actually Scratch OS... We could base it off of Ubuntu, but I need you guys to give me ideas for a lightweight Desktop Enviorment... It will probably have a dock... I don't remember what I used to use, so I'll need a new dock program, and I need some beta testers because trust me, I NEVER get making a desktop enviorment right the first time...
ok heres a mockup,

Here's a screen shot (link because img tags were shut down)
http://i39.tinypic.com/ke6wli.png It doesn't let me choose a desktop enviorment, and when I log in, it simply goes back to that screen again...

I'm trying to boot from Live CD and go back and fix whatever happened...

Can scratch make programs if not it could if you do it on you OS
One tab could say
Programs
Another could say
Block program
I have a new idea... What it you had to choose Scratch or Google Chrome at the session manager? It would still have a window manager so that you could close your program and return to the login. I would also put a multitasking desktop environment so that you could have both open...

OK... Please tell me why this script wont run at after being started by GDM
Code:
metacity & hsetroot -stretch & docky &First, where did you get that code, what's supposed to run it, when will it be run, and most importantly, what is it supposed to do?
First, I wrote the code that is supposed to start a simple set of programs as the destop enviorment, it will be run when you login to the Scratch DE.
Hmmm....... Having this same problem again, even after starting over.
Here is the code for custom.desktop in /usr/share/xsessions:
[Desktop Entry] Encoding=UTF-8 Name=Solar DE Comment=Editor and Chrome Exec=/solar/s.sh Icon= Type=Application
Here is the code for s.sh in /solar:
docky & metacity & hsetroot -fill /solar/wallpaper.jpg
No matter what I do, it always seems to fail and fallback to gnome... If I remove Gnome, it gives a blank screen, any idea what's going on?

Have a mac doc not a linex doc!
Make a 'Download Programs' app to download stuff like scratch mods and other softwere make the file .solar not .deb and zip files .solarzip see just add solar to every file and it will be your own OS
EDIT:Can I be part of the solar team a idea person

things you should tweak,
[1] an easy thing to do is to get rid of the ubuntu logo, copyright
[2] make something new! instead of a doc on top or bottom try something for the side
[3] try to put in some sort of plan on how to do it! don't just randomly push it all to one bundle! take it slow, and try to be original.

OK, I like that! We wouldn't be able to make and install for every mod, though...
BTW: Yup!!! Anyone who contributes is considered part of the team!!!

[1] I WILL change this stuff, if you or anyone else wants to make a logo I would be happy to use it.
[2] Will do!
[3] My plan was to create the DE with 3 to 4 programs (I'm kinda stuck here) then make the Scratch mod and integrate it...

I can help. I can do all sorts of things, but I am mainly interested in developing the scratch environment. (Squeak)
I am going to download a fresh copy of ubuntu and get scratch installed to it. Then I will look at the source.
EDIT: Remember that scratch and the new source code are the same now. It is officially public domain to make any changes we like.
