Plot for New Book

Long read, but tell me what you think!

Sam, Jimmy, Gertrude plan to go to Buenavista near Mexico City. On the plane, Sam meets a tourist who claims that there is a legendary sword hidden where they are going. At the hotel in Buenavista, one of the friends, called Sam accidently falls down a well and finds a piece of a map. Sam then proceeds to then find the other 5 pieces of the map, each hidden around the town. The last piece is hidden in a mine, which has been abandoned for centuries. The last piece triggers a booby trap, which separates the three friends. Sam is the only one who gets out, back to the overground. He realizes that his friends have the other pieces, and he has to find them. He searches the mine and bumps into the man he met on the plane, who is also searching for the other pieces. They find out the mine connects a secret smugglers’ raid, which happens a few days later. Whilst searching, he comes across Jimmy, who has found what the smugglers want: ancient gold. When the three friends reunite, they plan to hide the gold until after the smugglers’ raid, and then return it. This proves hard as they have a small hotel room and nearly a tonne of gold. The tourist they met lives in Buenavista, so he plans to hide a majority of the gold in his basement. Once the gold is safe, they plan to find out more about the raid. They follow the lead smuggler, who Sam glanced at in the mine. They also have his ID card, which he dropped when he saw Sam. The lead smuggler plans to start a business which sells bootleg games. Sam borrows a couple of these and finds the games have been hacked to steal data from the user’s computer. Fortunately, the computer they use is the hotel’s, which doesn’t have much data anyway. When returning the games, he is stopped by police for (apparently) stealing the gold. On the night of the raid, Gertrude manages to get Sam out of his cell, and the trio sneak into the mine. The group of smugglers are shocked to find that the gold has been taken away, and they see the three friends. They run and the smugglers catch up to them. They then arrive in the room where the piece of the map was found. Sam triggers the booby trap by mistake and everyone is chased by the giant boulder. The three friends quickly turn to a small room whilst the rest are chased down a tunnel. The boulder has revealed a passage, and the trio follow it. They find an old book and the book tells of the legend of the Sword and the Snake. They take the book and go back to the hotel to sleep. The next day they return the gold and plan to investigate the story for any clues to the sword’s whereabouts. Meanwhile, the smugglers are stuck in a labyrinth, which they were chased into by the boulder. The book and the map reveal that the sword is somewhere under Mexico City, but because it is Cinco de Mayo, the streets will be busy and full of guards. Sam sees that he is wanted now he has escaped, so he needs to find a way to navigate the city and find where the sword is. Sam has a plan; he’d dress up and fit in with the parade, until he reached the co-ordinates where the sword is.  The plan goes well, to start with. Jimmy and Gertrude kept watch as he travels with the parade. He reaches where the co-ordinates lead him, the museum. Luckily, because there was a carnival outside, none of the police guards were on watch. He managed to sneak in and reach exactly under the sword, the exhibit for a mystical tunnel. The tunnel was seemingly fake, until a random stone Sam put his hand on opened the door to a room with a treasure chest inside. He opens the chest and the legendary sword is inside. Then, the smugglers come down the tunnel with the police. They find Sam and the sword and plan to arrest him. But the police become intimidated and even the smugglers and once they all leave, it is only Sam and the lead smuggler. Sam hands the smuggler his ID card and the two of them have a duel. The lead smuggler has a sword the same size and he manages to throw the sword out of Sam’s hands. The smuggler is about to plunge his sword into Sam when Gertrude and Jimmy come down with the police, who this time are arresting the smuggler. Jimmy says he has explained the whole plan to the police, who had a different idea of the situation. The sword is placed back in the chest, simply because someone else might steal it. The trio return home and write this down as a book, which becomes popular.

Re: Plot for New Book

An interesting plot, if slightly...random.
It relies on a lot on coincidences to keep the story meaningful.

I wasn't intending for it to be random, more like a Tintin-style adventure.

I'm afraid it will be too long, but, I might ask my dad to publish it on his website.

Re: Plot for New Book

Tip: if you want to try and publish anything as a novel (I'm not sure what your intent is), then don't give away the whole plot on the Internet
